  1. Relayer by Yes ·
Back in the "day" when I used to hang out in my parent's basement with my musician buddies, this was one of the discs that constantly impressed me. Very adventerous and intense in many parts - yet there is a classical structure that lends a dee...(more)

  2. The Nightfly by Donald Fagen ·
I remember being upset that Steely Dan weren't putting out a new album when this one came out - but after years of listening, I like this as well as any of the other Dan discs - tasteful, polished & cool! If you haven't heard it, you need to!

One of the best Yes albums!

  4. Drama by Yes ·
One of Yes' most rocking discs - very creative and cool!

  5. Hohner B2A ·
I bought this because it looked different without being too far "out there," because it's comparatively light, and probably also because Geddy had a Steinberger (it's hard to remember back that far)! One of the best instrument purchases (bang-...(more)

  6. Funk Fusion Bass (incl Over 90 Tracks On CD) by Jon Liebman ·
I agree! It IS a fantastic book. The book/CD combo is difficult enough to keep you interested, but not overwhelming. Many different positions, techniques, keys, etc... If you run through this book as a part of your practice schedule, you WI...(more)

  7. Bass Fitness An Exercising Handbook by Joaquin des Pres ·
This book is to playing what aeorbics is to dancing - it's won't help with the artistic expression, but it will sure help to get you into the physical shape that you need to be in to get the job done! Actually, now that I think about it, it ...(more)

  8. Moving Pictures by Rush ·
I remember the day this came out - I was a kid just getting serious about playing, on vacation at my grandparents. I listened to it and decided to spend the whole week in the basement learning every note from first song to last - although I ...(more)

  9. Reggae Bass - Bass Builders by Ed Friedland ·
It's easy, but cool. I use it as a warmup and it's fun to get into the Reggae groove. The examples are musical and playable, IMHO, and most Reggae substyles are well represented. One of the only things that I didn't like is that there is a p...(more)

  10. Funk Bass by Jon Liebman ·
A great book for slapping and popping - the only downside is that each recorded example is not on it's own track, so you can't set your disc player to repeat an example over & over to learn it (maybe this problem has been fixed - Funk/Fusion B...(more)

  11. Jesus Freak by DC Talk ·
A classic Christian disc! Great vocals - great band. The band also recorded seperately under the name "Zilch" and put out some cool (& pretty quirky stuff). Also check out DC Talk's "Supernatural" (and "Free At Last," if you like rap).

  12. A Farewell To Kings by Rush ·
This was one of the first really rock albums that I got into (along with Zep. 2). Cygus X-1 stunned me at that time - and got me into playing odd time signatures. A sentimental favorite!

  13. Led Zeppelin 2 by Led Zeppelin ·
Along with "A Farewell To Kings" by Rush, this album contained the "must learn" songs to be in a cool band in high school! Classic!

  14. Master Strokes by Bill Bruford ·
Bill Bruford is a fantastic drummer. And he built a fantastic band around himself in the late 70's - early 80's. But for fans of this site - the name is Jeff Berlin. Also known as an "outspoken" columnist at Bass Player, Berlin's playing str...(more)

  15. Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd ·
What makes this album so great is, IMHO, not the individual playing, but the way the sonic space available is used. Each part contributes to make something greater than the sum of their parts - it's just a great listen. Even though the depre...(more)

  17. The Pretenders (the Singles) ·
It's strange - every other song on this CD is great. But then, there's those other songs... Still, when they we're on, The Pretenders were a force to be reckoned with - great pop with some guts to it.

  18. Blizzard Of OZ by Ozzy Osbourne ·
These were the tunes by which high school bands were judged in this disc's day - if you could pull these songs off (along with Rush's "Moving Pictures" lineup), you had graduated from the garage! Saw the tour live - tight band, with Randy Rh...(more)

This album is a textbook on tight and tasteful playing - a true classic.

An excellent modern worship album! Solid and creative playing.
