YOu should have a look at talkbass.com and some of the links from that site. Also, youtube has some good video lessons that will give you some idea of how to develop good hand position, etc.

I'm glad you liked the video. I honestly am glad to be taking a year off from teaching. I'm not too worried about home stuff; my kids are pretty much grown up. We'll see how we get on without each other!

I'll be working in the orchestra, doing a lot of sightreading. I expect to do this for at least a year, provided they don't throw me off the ship!

I auditioned for a cruise ship agent -- a harrowing and humbling affair -- but apparently managed to do well enough to be able to expect I'll be working for a cruise line this summer. Have lots of stuff for sale on craigslist that I won't need!

My jazz duo with guitarist Rich Falco played live on www.wicn.org, our local jazz station and NPR affiliate. Joe Zupan, one of the DJ's (and a good drummer!) was kind enough to video our performance. He posted it to the radio station's site, but...(more)

You can also scan pages into a photo program, which will allow you to switch the image around any way you'd like, then print it out.

I don't know that slowing down the tune will help much. You're obviously motivated to learn the tune; maybe attacking the piece head on his keeping you from working on your rhythmic feel. Please have a look at "Improving Your Time and Feel" -- t...(more)

Set the metronome to click very fast, and then play scales each third or fourth click. As you get better at the scale you're working on, try every two clicks.

I can barre across all four strings of my bass guitar. I NEVER use different fingers for fingering across strings on the same fret, unless there is some other compelling technical reason to do so (like leaving a string open between two fretted s...(more)

The sad part isn't the guitarists PLAYING the bass, but those who aren't really bassists, even part-time, who pretend they can TEACH the bass. IMHO, the two instruments require almost entirely different technique, and since I play guitar as well...(more)

If you don't mind playing for free, but you have problems with the idea of doing what amounts to a benefit for a club owner, I suggest that you play for local arts organizations and non-profits to hone your performance skills. It's a better gaug...(more)

Usually the best unplugged sound is simply the loudest, because ABG's just arent' very loud! Taylor makes an excellent ABG that really works acoustically as a "parlor" guitar. The Godin just sounds great plugged in and can be practiced unplugged...(more)
