I use Schaller strap locks (thanks Griz!) and had no problem installing them on my p-bass using the original fender screws.

I always thought that the pickup covers looked pretty cool but for my playing style they're a PITA (I tend to rest my thumb on the pickup).

It's not surprising that you found it sounds better as a guitar amp (many a great guitarist used Fender Bassman amps for the same reason).
