I stand corrected. You are of course right. In a standard P pup installation the pup halfs are wound in opposite directions and wired in series making it a humbucker.
Wiring S vs P affects the impedance not the polarity. Sorry for the confusion...(more)

Not disagreeing with Jens above but to elaborate...
P pups are essentially 2 single coil half pups. When wired in series they act like one full sized single coil pup. The tone is beefier and there's no hum cancelling. When wired in parallel the...(more)

Years ago I had an Oddessey bass with a single DiMarzio P-pup. It had an S/P switch. The difference in tone could be heard but it wasn't really big and it wasn't all that useful.
However, I installed DiMarzio P and J pups in my Fender P Lyte an...(more)

Glad to hear you are doing well. Too bad you can't just take the kids along to band practice.

You're right that the context will influence how 'dark' the tritone will sound. Look up Black Sabbath on wiki. I'm pretty sure there's a section describing their 'discovery' of the tritone and how they made heavy use of it to define their sound.

Yep, I considered that possibility too. 'No sound' is pretty vague. Could even refer to his hearing. lol

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking how to get a particular tone? Or are you experiencing a problem getting any output at all from your bass?
If the latter we'd need more info. Is it an active or passive bass, what amp or DI ...(more)

It's true alright. While I doubt anyone was burned at the stake for playing it, it was definately frowned upon. Read the history here.

Well I think you're right except in cases where extreme portability is the goal. The PJB briefcase is great for things like outdoor acoustic gigs where there's no available AC power.

I was of the same opinion until I heard one Roger. It really blew my mind how much bass you could get. Only thing it didn't handle well was the bottom 2 or 3 notes of a BEADG fiver. It's a great little amp for certain situations.
