Well the good thing is that he has not been under my tutelage directly, and I've given him plenty of good natured grief about stringgate! As I plug him in to the main teams more, I will require more of him. Thanks for the feedback! Hope all is w...(more)

That's my strength, going for what is in front of me and making it work and this young man did just that to his credit! However, my thoughts now run a bit deeper, see above.... Thanks for your thoughts!

Well ain't no way he'll ever have the Fender out of my sight! No prob for him to use it tho. And Mo has made me think, that in a position of responsibility is offered to a yungun, they would do well to appreciate that they should then make sure ...(more)

The first time I said "Do you need strings?" to which he replied "Yes" and since he is a member of our church, I mentioned that if it was OK with his folks I'd buy him a set to which he replied "That's OK, I'll take care of it". He proceeded to...(more)

One of the yunguns I'm mentoring came to the rehearsal with a broken D string. Then he shows up at the gig and his A string breaks. Next time we meet he's going to be on bass and I'm on percussion. He calls me ahead of the gig, "Hey can I play y...(more)

I grew up in a town of 8,000 in Northern CA. Drive 1/2 hour East and I was in high foothills with Pines and rivers and lakes. Drive 1/2 hour West and I was in the middle of the rice fields and citrus orchards. I LOVED the place when I was very y...(more)

2 guitarists work only if they try to arrange parts so that they aren't wanging in the same register and frequency range. One guy play something sparse mid range, one guy playing something sparser upper mid range or higher. I like to use the "pi...(more)

For years, I practiced and studied how to make and perform music to the neglect of being up on gear. I have never experienced any disadvantage for not being a gear head. I find that most folks are very willing to help a guy out when necessary wh...(more)

I will play without one if needed, but I like to feel the sound pressure of having an amp nearby. I usually face it backward so as not to interfere with the vocals or all the percussion and grand piano that's often out in front of me.

I am finding the culture here much more to my liking lately, as opposed to, as Harley put it, Farcebook, if only for the lack of so much clutter. I've found it tiring to see the multi posts that some of my "friends" put up, I much prefer a more ...(more)

You are a model father, in the middle of frustration and still spending the time. You are an example to all fathers, as hard as you work, all the things you've strove to build and in the heat of it STILL taking time with your yungun even as it i...(more)

You know, Dave M has a point. I hardly listen to music on any device unless it's XM radio while I drive or stuff I'm lifting at work. I usually play the tunes in my head, and, OH, it seems I never have a quiet moment between my ears...
