People really luv the sanamp stuff but it always leaves me a meh.
My favorite tone tool these days is an [sfx] AY2, an update of the Yamaha NE-1.

I have used that particular amp cab co...(more)

It's all about tone and feel. I started on cello and then upright bass - as much as i dig playing on frets there are some nuances you can only get on a fretless instrument. I have 2 fretless basses and an electric upright for those needs.

That is one of those guitar myths that have crept over into the bass world. Changing string is a perfect time to clean up your beast, polish the frets and fingerboard and other chores impossible when strung up. As long as you gradually release...(more)

Welcome Bill, most of us are 'older' so no worries there.
I have been using a GK MB500 for a couple of years now and it has been working out just fine for me, light powerful and just as warm as you might need it to be. The 4 band EQ will allow...(more)

Automotive sound systems are very different from contemporary bass rigs. Most bass amplifiers since the mid 80's have a warm up and shut down circuit to spare speakers from the "burp" you describe. Further bass speakers are generally much stif...(more)

First congrats and good luck!

Vintage Tube amps are like vintage sports cars, you need a good mechanic. The best thing to do is get your amp checked out by a tech ASAP to see what can be done. Adding a ground is essential and may take care of many of your issues. Also the...(more)
