I've recently left a five piece blues band, am looking to join/form an alt-country outfit.

I bought my first bass in 1972 - A (very) well broken-in ten year old Fender P-bass and played in bar bands until the disco thing killed live music in the late 70's.

Sold off all my gear and never touched a bass again until earlier last year (2008), I horse-traded a busted Gibson J-40 for a Jay Turser AEB, then bought a Carvin LB75.

A Hagstrom HIIB followed later and then I turned an Ebay trainwreck into Black Betty. Most recent acquisitions, a Dano '63 Baritone and a black Fender jaguar.

Over the years, I seem to have lost a lot of my bad playing habits and came back to it fresh, and minus ego and other distractions.

The Gear: Then and Now

Bass from the past

These are representative examples of instruments I have owned, dredged from the net. Of all of them, I miss the Hofner the most.

Amplifiers used back then were a Carvin ST2500 feeding a Peavey 215 cab and a blackface Fender Bassman 50 feeding a weird Fender cabinet with three 12" drivers.

That's me (with the 12-string)circa 1974 in one of the outfits I played with, "Mutant Blue"

For some reason, I was never photographed with a bass.

Current gear: Fender Jag, modified with extra shielding, DiMarzio Model J's, a black pickguard, Hipshot bridge and tuners, including a D-tuner; "Black Betty", a highly modified 1969ish Univox Coily; Dano '63 Baritone - my "piccolo" 6-string bass, 1966 Hagstrom H IIB; and Jay Turser EAB, improved with K&K Pure Pickups. Carvin/Peavey 1/2 stack, and Fender B-DEC 30.

I'm mostly interested in Americana, leaning more to the country and blues influence, but I love jazz and roots rock, also. I (try to) play anything that catches my interest.

For technique, I play mostly with a pick, but occasionally with my fingers, depends on the song. I've recently acquired a Stagg electric upright and I've been having a lot of fun with it. Here are the new ones:

The blue 5-banger "Bertha DeBlues" is an ebay find, which I equipped with Seymour Duncan MM and jazz pickups, mother-of-toilet-seat pickguard, and a Badass bridge.
