Howdy Doo

I'm Dylan, I Play Bass

That's about it. I'm also an electronics tinkerer. I make effect pedals and synthesizers and am currently going to school for electrical engineering. You can check out the stuff I make and if you're interested in buying something, just contact me.

My life in music started out in the late 90's. I have no idea why, but for some reason I gravitated towards bass. Maybe it was seeing rockabilly bands and in awe at the big ol' upright basses. When I was 9 years old, my friend and his two sisters came over to the house, the sisters had just gotten a guitar and bass. I had to play that bass. For what seemed like hours I stood in the room off of the kitchen playing that bass.

A few months later in October 1999, I finally got a bass. My dad brought me to a guitar shop and I got a Squire p-bass bass + amp package. I was so excited, even more so when the guy who didn't even work there saw me hold a bass and said I held my hands perfectly on it.

In middle school, I started playing bass in my first band. It was kind of an offshoot of the school's band. We'd meet once a week and play a bunch of cover tunes. We played anything from classic rock tunes to old jazz standards. We played quite a few shows, and even got paid! It was a great year of playing.

That band departed at the end of 8th grade, and once highschool started, a new band was started with a few of the members from that previous band. This band was even better. We focused more on the rock stuff than the jazz, which was fine with me (though I do like jazz!) and even had a handful of original tunes.

This band lasted a good few years of gigging (with pay!) and a lot of good memories, but I left because I was sick of cover tunes and wanted to play originals!

It's been about 5 years since that band, and not much has happened since. I had a short lived solo project that no one really paid much attention to. Played a few solo gigs, even did a "tour" of two shows out of state (New York and Massachusetts!). Now I'm in my friend's punk band, and am re-finding my love for bass.
