Me with my (approx 1942) Kay Swingmaster
Blues and Roots Music
I started on bass in 1975, playing mostly in Chicago style blues bands. In 1994 I started the switch from a Fender for high wattage electric blues, to an upright for acoustic blues, bluegrass, rockabilly, folk rock, and even classical music.
In 1999 I played more gigs in book stores and coffee houses than in bars. In spite of the change of instruments and venues, I remain, deep in my soul, a Chicago Bluesman. My heart beats in 1/8 note triplets.
In addition to playing in bars and bookstores, I play in an ensemble for church services.
The Journey
For me, music is a lifelong journey. There is always something more to learn about managing the instrument, or about music itself. Every year I attend some kind of music class or take some private lessons.
