So, the calluses are gone, the gear is sold to a nice guy wanting to start up, and I have to tell people I *used to be* a bassplayer... but it's for the better. I've lost the urge but I'm not put down by it. AB members give me hope with their history of picking the low end back up after a hiatus. :-)
