I was born on the 25th of March 1976 in Salford, Manchester. I have been playing bass guitar for about 8 to 9 years but only seriously for the past 2 and a half. My first Bass guitar was a westfield I bought for 96 which I still own. I now play a US made Fender P-Bass which is my baby. I also used to play flute and trumpet in variouse orchestras and jazz bands around the Manchester area until I turned 17 and decided that bass guitar was the instrument for me. The bass guitarists in bands always seemed to look cool to me and never seemed to say very much.
I am in a band called Midnight Blue (
http://www.midblue.com ) who are mostly from Manchester (oh and er Rochdale!). The band teamed up in the spring of 2000 and over the past 2 years we have worked hard together to produce all our own material.
The Band began with Will Biggs, who after much fiddling alone in his room, went on to become an extremely talented guitarist. I met Will whilst at college and confessed that I too also liked to play with my instrument, and became our very own head-wagging Bass guitarist. Lynn Smith joined as drummer and as a huge Man City fan (poor sod!!) contributed greatly to the naming of the band. Racheal Riley then came after answering an advertisement in Playgirl for what she thought read "Swinger Wanted". Last but by no means least, Ste Southern joined later that same year, and with his many musical talents made the band up to become Midnight Blue.
As each band member's own musical influences are different- Rock, Jazz and Soul- the music produced is a variety of guitar based rock, sax based Funk, a selection of melodic acoustics and the odd broken hearted love song! This reflects on the variation the band has been able to achieve and although this may have made it difficult to put the band in any sort of musical category, overall it provides an excellent selection of original songs.
