Wow it's been a long time since I've been on this site...and it's a shame too since I've always enjoyed the friendships I've made from this site. Thanks to those who voted on my Tejano Bass lessons...it's a shame I never finished that series. I guess it was too big of a task for me...I'm not formally trained or whatever you call it...hopefully someone better qualified then I will give it a try...at this our music.
I use to update at least once a month, but alas my time is consumed updating my band's website, and spending the rest at
myspace. So if any of you want to hunt me down for any reason check out my bands site
SALVOMUSIC.COM Most likely you'll find me there.
About me....
I started learning bass in 1993, I was 15 yrs old, but I guess I really didn't get the "hang of it" until I started a band 2 yrs later...that's when I really consider myself playing bass.
I come from a very musical family. My grandfather, uncles and my dad played in Tejano/Chicano/Conjunto bands.
I've always been around music, it was just a matter of time that I would get into it too. Along with the Mexican music I grew up listening to, I also got into 50's & 60's rock n' roll. My dad was a huge fan of the music. I heard it around the house all the time, so it grew on me until finally liking it.
When I was a teenager in the '90's I really got into music... especially rock music. I was kind of tired of the traditional music I listened to as a kid and I really liked rock music, my brother and I along with some neigborhood friends would pretend to have a band. We use tennis rackets and broomsticks for guitars and white, empty buckets for drums!!! It's so funny now. We wanted to be rockstars.
Around that time my life took a different turn...I became a Christian and was introduced to a whole different world of music along with my new outlook on life. I still wanted to listen to rock music...and ironically I started getting into heavier stuff listening to Christian bands. I got into metal, speed bands, hardcore, punk and the more melodic alternative rock bands when I became a Christian.
A couple of years ago I was able to form a band with my brother and some friends...we call it SALVO...and we play hard rock all sung in spanish...It feels real good to finally be playing something I always wanted to play. We try to sound a little mainsteam but also original. We are trying to put our own little spin on things.
I like to play, especially bass...there's been times when I've wanted to quit, I would get so frustrated that my progess wasn't fast enough or good enough...but no matter how many times I wanted to stop I just end up coming back to playing...it's hard for me to give it up...So now I don't really put pressure on myself...I play to have fun and enjoy every minute of it...
Well that's my life...so far...If something new happens...I'm sure I'll post it somewhere on the internet.
This is my MYSPACE if any of you want to check it out...add me if you have an account...
It wouldn't be a members webpage without listing my "gear". So here it is:
Main Bass (ha my only bass): Ibanez SR905BM...I bought this after going an entire 14 months without owing a bass...I borrowed a Dean 5 stringer from my church (thanks!!!) Now I have my own and it feels good...It has a 3 band active eq with bartiloni pickups...
First Bass: Lotus (I don't even know the model. It's a four stringer and my uncle gave it to me when I was first learning to play. I gave it to my half-brother who said he wanted to learn to play.)
Main "Rig": Hartke 4X10 Transporter with a Hartke 3500 head. (The head was from my original Hartke amp that came in a combo with a 15" speaker and a 4" tweeter. Needless to say the 15" got blown so my church got me the cabinet with the 4, 10")
Accessories: Boss BF-3 Flanger, Boss stombox tuner
