Because I couldn't afford a genuine Rick and because they are SO hard to find in lefty models, this bass is a dream that came true. I finally can play the body shape and sound that I love since I was a teenager...
Model Year: 2011

Tokai is a Japanese brand but the bass was made in Indonesia. Rosewood fretboard, neck-thru, the body is fireglo with a white binding and a white pickguard. Looks exactly like a Rickenbacker. Passive electronics, two volume knobs for bridge and neck PU with 2 tonal knobs according to the volume knobs. One dip-switch to alter or mix between the PU's
Very playable neck, I still have to get used to the bridge PU which is covered with a metal cover.
Compared to the 4-string Hfner violin bass, it has more growl and is more fit to play heavier styles. comapred to the Hfner, this bass keeps tuned for more than a week.
Nice growl and it can be switched between agressive tones and a mellow piano-string sound. Excellent!
It is reliable for live gigs. I will have to install some Sperzel Trimlocks, just in case for safety.
