This pedal is definitely an out there effects unit that is not your conventional distortion. While it does offer more standard distortion sounds, what it does best is create those synthy, funky flavors that work really well for both laying down a solid foundation (thanks to that Clean Mix knob) or a vibrant solo. I would recommend you at least try it at the store and see if it's for you because for what this pedal is, it is extremely well executed.
Model Year: 2010
Price: $220.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Source Audio
Features:
There are 3 footswitches that hold 2 preset banks each, which can be morphed between via an expression pedal. The 23 different distortion types are selectable with the center effect knob. There is also a Clean Mix knob, Distortion Mix knob and a Drive knob. There is also a 7 band Graphic EQ with 12 dB in either direction. MIDI connection allows for continuous control of each parameter.
Sound Quality:
The Clean Mix/Distortion Mix knob give this pedal a huge edge over the others that I've tried because they allow me to maintain the low end when I activate the effect. The variety of sounds from each distortion are insane. The multiband distortion have a texture that is very, very new and when the foldback distortion curve come in, very, very intriguing.
Ease of Use:
Having the 6 presets is key. It took me about and hour or two of tinkering with the pedal to get those set up, but with that done I can move quickly between all of my main sounds on stage without too much thought.
Durability:
The plastic was a bit of concern for me, but it seems to be heavy duty. I dropped it the other night while trying to velcro the bottom for my pedalboard and I've had no problems with that. Only time will tell though.
