This is my first bass, so, honestly, I bought it for the price and the fact that my husband has a Dean ML X and he suggested the brand. I love my bass, but if it were lost or stolen, I'd have to go with a Z of some type or a Sledgehammer 4, but I'd definitely stick with Dean. You can't beat their necks. The electronics and tuners leave something to be desired, but, for 100 bucks, I can't complain. I'd recommend this bass to anyone who's just starting out. I couldn't ask for a better starter bass.
Model Year: 2007
Price: $100.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar Center
Features:
Made in China. Maple neck. 22 fret 34" scale rosewwod fretboard. Unsure of body wood. It has a single passive soapbar pickup. 1 volume, 1 tone. Transparent black finish with all black hardware.
Playability:
The playability of this bass is excellent. With the addition of flatwound strings and a tweaking of the bridge to tighten up the action some, it plays like a dream. The neck is amazing. Fast, smooth, and comfortable. The nicest of any I've played.
Sound Quality:
I have a Zoom 607 bass effects pedal and currently I'm using a Kustom Sienna 65 acoustic amp. I play rock, metal, and blues mostly and the bass does very well with all three. I'd like to upgrade the pickup, tuning keys, and jack, but otherwise, it's a great little bass.
Durability:
I've only had it for two months, but so far, so good. I've just had to tighten the jack a time or two.
