Great site, best of all it's free!!

One morning, i woke up and thought 'i have no idea about scales or how to read them/use them etc' so, i went to activebass and found a link to wheats bass book. I spent a few hours on there, learning scales and other handy tips. if i had a printer on the pc i was on i would have printed it off, as it is arranged so you can easily print off the whole of each book.

This is a great website for the beginner or someone who just needs to brush up on their knowledge of the bass guitar. It has all the information you need to start playing bass. All of the information is laid out in an easy to understand format. I would give this website a ten star rating if it were possible to do so.

Wheat's Bass Book, now in its 5th incarnation, is quite simply, the best bass resource on the internet. The author, James Martin, is a graphical designer and it shows in the clarity and simplicity of his layout.

The book is well thought out and has a logical progression of chapters in three sections. The first is mainly on technique and how to play, the second on theory and the third includes miscellaneous topics such as rehearsing with a band and reading music.

Unlike books made out of dead trees, Wheat's book has continued to evolve and improve from the day when it first came out.

I cannot recommend this resource highly enough.

This book is a great beginner's tool. My previous bass instructor used it in teaching me.

DOH! Great site. The whole book is online, so you can read it whenever. Extremely valuable as a resource.

I know nothing about music, playing bass or anything, but want to get started. i just read this online book and it's absolutely great, i think. covers everything from basics to advanced stuff. better than any of the commercial books i looked at. definitely convinced me to get going.
