I chose this bass because I wanted something that could play the various types of heavy metal, be it classic rock or thrash metal at shows, to a bit of slap and motown when I'm at home...this bass can play it all. Kudos to Ernie ball, who actually allowed for me to send them my humbucker pickup and they replaced the new pickup cover for the traditional style cover for a mere $25.
Model Year: 2006
Price: $1340.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar Center
Features:
This is made in California, USA. My particular body is ASH and has a Maple neck and fretboard. The Sterling HS has a 3 band active eq, and a 5 position pickup selector switch for loads of variety!! The body is slightly smaller and narrower then the Stingray, and the neck has a thin Jazz bass styled neck.
Playability:
This is the most versatile bass I've ever played, and I just can't believe all the sounds it can get. It has a deep low end when the single coil is soloed or when both pickups are set to parallel. Its an amazing bass...I'm so glad I sold my Rickenbacker to buy this bass. The only thing I do not like are the new curve top pickup covers, like the ones that have been on the Bongos.
Sound Quality:
Like I said, it's incredibly versatile, and it will not disappoint you.I've played Peavey Cirrus's and Rickenbackers live, and after playing a set with this bass I received my first major compliment regarding my bass tone.
Durability:
The thing is built tough, just like every Musicman/Ernie ball product I've seen.
