Looked at Ampeg SVT-too expensive & not as versatile, also only goes to 4 ohm, where the Bassman goes 8/4/2 ohm=more variation with my cabs!!! Also looked at Marshall VBA400-all tube- again not as versatile-only 4/2 ohm & again less controls -= less options!
Orange tube bass 200 = too expensive!
Wanted an ALL tube-not just pre-amp tubes, I just love the feel they give-there's nothing else like it!!!!!
Best thing- sound!!!! Worst thing- weight!!!
AFTER another month.... this brute just keeps getting better(not lighter, better) sounds, range, versatility will update in a few more months.

UPDATE - 2 couple months later... ALL GOOD!! This baby just keeps getting better! More U play & get used to the pre. the better U can adjust yr sound to- ANYTHING!
Use with Fender Precision, MM Stingray 5, & Elec. uprite bass. This amp IS THE BOMB. Sounds great with all3 of these basses! Can stay clean at UNBELIEVABLE volumes-300 all tube watts is like say 1500 at least solid state watts I'm afraid!!-drive channel is sweet as, & being able to blend the two channels means an endless array of drive blends! Is very quiet too!
Seems to suit all styles I play-jazz, rock, funk, heavy, RnB, old style rock n roll!!!!!

Not programmable-good sound straight off the bat- but an endless pallette of sounds-as this has more controlls than ANY valve amp I've ever seen.
Apparently designed by the designer of the original SVT !!
UPDATE= there are SO many sound options with this baby brute, Ive done 8 gigs w/ her & I'm only just scratching the surface of what it can do!!! Also, sounds great on power up, but seems to sound even better as the nite wears on, & U REALLY WISH that the gig could go ON & ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful!!

6x6550 power tubes, 3x12AX7a &1x12AT7 pre amp tubes!
Very reliabe & as its SO powerful I won't be running the tubes hard possibly ever-therefore the power tubes should last a LONG time- I've only had it a month,so I can't really comment on reliability! Will update this in a few more months.
Has REALLY tough tolex/vinyl-or the like black covering, tougher than I've ever come across B4 in my 30 yrs playing bass!
3 months... Still in A1 cond. after probly 16 gigs! As I said - the covering is TOUGH! I still made a Vynil cover(my wife did-sewing machine) so as to protect knobs(from mic stands etc when loading) & tubes(from cold weather).
