Overall Rating:
I was looking for an inexpensive cab to use for practice and the occasional gig, and was prepared to sacrifice some tonal quality for the price. I am relieved that I didn't have to make any sacrifice whatsoever with this cab. If it were stolen, I would buy it again, because it's probably the best cab $300 can buy, and it's a great standalone cab. It provides every bit as much low bass as a 15 with the punch of a 10.
Model Year: 2005
Price: $299.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar Center
Features:
Pretty straight forward inputs and outputs, although I would have liked to have a second 1/4" out and an attenuator knob for the tweeter rather than just an on/off, but it doesn't sound obnoxious when on. The nice thing about this cab is it's sensitivity - although I'm only running 350 watts, I'm shaking windows at volume 2! a 100 watt amp could drive this thing pretty loud, but I would use a limiter to be on the safe side.
Sound Quality:
I am currently using an Ibanez BTB 405QM and an Ampeg 350H head, and it complements both very well. I get all the bottom end, mid punch and highs I could ever want, without the tinny tone that most alu cone haters associate with them (I used to be one of them). The biggest selling point to me was that it could handle a viscious low B attack at high volume without farting or flopping. It does have a very versatile sound, but maybe a little too hifi to replicate the old school Ampeg flip top tone. Overall, I'd say this cab is beefier than the typical Ampeg 4X10 and smoother in the mids than a Hartke.
Ease of Use:
Plug and play like all the others
Durability:
Haven't owned it long enough to rate this fairly, but the cones and the cab itself seem more than sturdy. It's not heavy enough to give you a serious backache like an Eden cab, but maybe a touch heavier than a standard Ampeg 4X10
