Yamaha SBV-500 Samurai

Electric Fretted 4-String Bass

Made by Yamaha

Description One of my favorite basses. It is now out of production, but it was a great buy for the closeout price of $199 that I got it for. OVerall a great bass for the price, if you can find it.

I would definetely try to buy another bass like this if it was ever stolen. I love the body shape, but i think it could be better with different strings and pickups.
Price: $199.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Musicians Friend
Features:
The body isn't abstract, but is definetely different from all the other yamahas that Ive seen. It has a maple neck and a samurai headstock. It has two J style pickups.
Playability:
The stock strings didn't feel right, and made it hard to play, but I bought some DR Bootzillas and now it plays like a dream, and is great for slapping.
Sound Quality:
THis bass sounds pretty good, but not as good as other basses that I've played that had EMGs and Bartolinis.
Durability:
This bass has never let me down, and I live in Vermont, where it gets very cold, but suprisingly hot in the summer. The hardware still works quite well.
