Although I am very happy with it, I would purchase a Zoom or Bass POD in case the BassFex was stolen or lost. Since the BassFex is mounted in a rack with my T-MAX I would probably be obliged to buy another amp, and that would be a Firebass 700.
Model Year: 1987
Price: $100.00 5,000 BEF (new)
Where Obtained: second hand
128 factory sounds - possibility to 128 self programmed effects. AC convertor. It's rather cryptic to program, I only use the factory settings.
My BassFex is mounted in a rack with a Peavey T-MAX, the foot-controller is a Peavey Profex II.
Some nice effects are included, I like the Chorus & Reverb, Rickenbacker (I cannot afford a Ric, the sound of the BassFex comes very near to a genuine Ric-sound), Yezz (Chris Squire sound). In combination with the hybrid tube=valve pre-amp/solid state T-MAX, I get a powerfull sound. It's a shame that I don't use 80% of the factory effects.
The programmable part of the manual is rather cryptic, since I am not a technician or programmer. The effects sound rather "old" but in combination with other effects you can find some "new" sounds.
The BassFex is reliable enough, the Profex II footcontroller is heavy-duty constructed. Peavey is the best in my opinion regarding price/quality!
