So this is Phishes last studio recording. Having just recently been introduced to them I was ticked that this is the end of the road. I have gone back and listened to as much of there live and recorded stuff as I could. So how does Undermind stack up? I would place it just, but just, behind Billy Breathes. They have managed to keep a few songs with there trade marked jamming, but there are more songs that just capture the essense of the band. "Crowd Control" is a straight forward song with a distinked Grateful Dead sound. There are also some cool less than two minute gems like "Maggie's Revenge". My biggest question would be that with the band ending such an incredible carreer, why do an album that is evolutionary Phish? Why not do a "Best of"? I don't think this is the end.
