I had possessed two of the old originals (1 was loaned out but not returned, the other was on loan to me and I did return it after the tour)and had been looking for one for years and was overjoyed when the reissue was announced and happier still when I was able to get one to call my own again. My only two wants for this unit are a remote bypass feature and a sturdier power supply. All in all a very well designed unit and everyone can get their own sound with it.

Looking for wild or phat bass sounds and every thing else leaves you a bit disappointed? Try a Bass MicroSynth. I has 10 sliders for trigger-suboctave-guitar-octave-square wave-attack delay-resonance-start freq-end freq- rate-- a bypass footswitch, a power switch and a wall wart power supply and it all comes in one of those nifty wooden boxes. About the only thing I would have liked would be a remote bypass feature so I could keep it within easy reach and still be able to foot switch it when needed. .
Sound Quality:
This unit is a lot of fun to play with but it isn't as simple to understand as you might think. I've been able to get reasonably close sounds for bass lines and solo-melody lines and some of the percussion noise sounds can be useful as well. It sounds just fine and noise isn't a problem, sure if you crank up the square wave it is noisy but otherwise it is fine. It reminds me of old Moog and Arp synths I've used in the past and is kind of in between as far as sound and controls go. Using different basses does make a difference as well as touch to the different sounds,it seems to respond best to my Gibson G-3 bass. Using other effects after is a good way to change the sound as well and using an amp model or simulator adds to the warmth of the sound too. .
Ease of Use:
Well it's analog and that means 1 sound at a time. Playing around with this unit is half of the fun, start out with the sample sounds on the provided templates and go from there. The only other unit that I know of that is available is the Boss SYB and this one is more versatile, has more control and is a lot easier to use, 10 well spaced sliders as opposed to 3 tiny stacked knobs.
Durability:
It is EH and that means with reasonable care it should continue working. Some people hate EH others love it for me it's love. My only real worries for long term operation is about the wall wart power supply, but for now they are inexpensive to replace so get a back up.
