I chose this one for only one reason - I need a cheap 5 string to make the transition from a 4 string. It is barely "practiceable". This a very cheap bass and it is not worth the price you could get it on Ebay (and you can get it for as low as $120.00). Don't waste your time! Buy an Ibanez GSR205 or a Cort instead.
Model Year: 2003
Price: $147.50 (new)
Where Obtained: Ebay Auction
Features:
Stellar is a new guitar manufacturer out of Miami, Florida. They began operations in September of 2003. Their website is www.stellarguitars.com. Apparently, the company makes these in Southern Cal. because that was where it was shipped from (according to DHL tracking). Rosewood neck, maple body; 35 scale with 1 volume 2 tone; 2 J-style p/u's; Passive electronics; black glossy finish on a Jazz style body. Non-locking tuners with a string-thru bridge.
Playability:
This bass did not come in ready-to-play. It required about $40 worth of immediate improvements in order to have it sound acceptable. It has a fast neck, but had serious fret buzz and the tuners were pathetic. Once these things were taken care of, it began doing what I wanted it to do - make the transition to a 5-string.
Sound Quality:
I play in a Church praise band with a rock-style. But, I only use this guitar to get acquainted with the 5 string. Easy action, not very good sound.
Durability:
This guitar is well-built - once you change the tuners and grind down some frets.
