I tried several Crate, Carvin, Gallien-Kreugers, SWR, AMPEG's, etc. They all had different qualities that were good. But this rig meet the qualities and price that I could afford at the time. Great set up!

Purchased the Hartke 1400 with the 4x10 Transporter Cabinet. This unit comes with a compression control, contour control, 4 eq controls, and master volume control. I run my bass through a DI box to our PA system and add a slight hint of reverb at the mix. The Amp is really just a stage monitor for me. But the overall sound and punch is perfect for our practices and gigs.
I use a Squire P-bass Special and a Washburn XB-100. Both basses sound great through this rig. I get adjust the eq for lots of low end growl and/or high end cripness for upper register work.
Nothing to do but plug-n-play. EQ adjustments for your style of play are all that's necessary.
I have lugged the gear around for about a year now. No scratches, no problems, no hassles...although she be a little heavy to carry around.
For me this is the perfect amp. Light, easy to transport, with plenty of power and features for what I do. Play dances, and dinner music at different size venues. excellent choice for me.
