Looked at lotsa other 'lower' price range 5 strings. This just was offered at the right time & had the features I was lookin for.= 5 str. Passive, Precision body, great condition, good sound, good feel & good looks.
Model Year: 2002
Price: $300.00 AUD
Where Obtained: Friend
Features:
Indo nesian made- all as previous review above. Mine is ANNIVERSARY EDITION '82-'02 Shoreline Gold Colour. All features as above-2 jazz(single coil)p/ups, 2 vols, 1-tone pots, WIDE neck -but this actually gives it a 4 string feel as the strings are a good distance apart. Good for Slappin'. ALL Passive-NO battery!
Playability:
As I said - neck/ fretboard is WIDE, but plyability is GOOD. Nice med-low action, neck is straight- & it hangs well- for a pretty cheap 5'er this babe is a beaut! Doesn't have ANY flaws that I've found so far! I also play a Musicman Stingray 5 so I've got THAT to compare it to & it holds up WELL!
Sound Quality:
Use with Fender Bassman 300PRO-ALL tube 300w into SVT410HLF & EV TL1x15" or a Fender 2x10". Or an Ampeg SVT3PRO, & sometimes An EMINAR(AUS-1978) tube amp. Sounds Good thru ALL. Can be very brite or dark just with an adjust of the tone pot! Has a great SLAP sound!
Durability:
Seems reliable & solid. I had it sent across the country from a friend, & was sent with neck off! EZ to put back 2gether & neck was a good tight fit, Its a Precision body-w/ jazz p/ups- so she seems pretty solid- agathis body, not Alder. Still sounds good tho!

Generaly I'm pleased with this Bass for what I payed for it. I chose it for price but have compared it too some other entry level 5 strings and it is good. I would have payed more for this Bass its that nice. Could be better with more powerfull pick-ups. Comfortable once your hand gets use to the width of the neck. It stays in tune really well and doesnt rattle at all. Low B can feel a little loose with some strings. I use Roto-Sounds and they are perfect.
Model Year: 2002
Price: $189.00 British pounds (new)
Where Obtained: Machinehead UK
Features:
Made in Indonesia Agathis Body, Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard. 20 medium frets. 5 Strings Two Volumes and one Tone control Two single coil Jazz Pick-Ups. Passive electrics. Metalic Green finish. Solid Block traditional bridge. Open gear "Butterfly" tuners. Chrome hardwear. White three ply scratch plate.
Playability:
I had to fiddle with the Action and intonation a little to get it just the way I like it but generally it was setup well from the start, I play a pretty low action and it works well when setup properly. Pretty wide neck but its not very thick so it didnt take long before it felt like it belonged in my hand. Good allround playability, I play quite a few fast pieces and its not too bad. No real flaws, its rather noisy when you turn down the volumes a bit to blend your sound but thats just single coils. Not as loud as other basses but its got a good round warm sound. The neck is also really heavy so dont let it go cos the head will hit the floor fast. Generally pretty heavy.
Sound Quality:
I use a small combo to practice with and it really sounds good, a bit like Flea's tone. I've played it through a 600watt marshall a few times and I'm really happy with the variety of sounds I can get from it. I play funky rock but it'll suit anything really. Allround nice versatile Bass, just that damn noise when blending but theres a simple remedy by masking the back of the scratch plate and pick-up cavities with aluminum tape.(Apparently)
Durability:
The general build is really good. I've noticed now that its getting colder its starting too rattle a bit so I think some adjustments will be neccesary in different temperatures. I've not had it all that long and I tend too realy look after my stuff by keeping it clean and being carefull with it. After 6 months it still looks new. The chrome has worn off very slightly on the B-string saddle where I tend to rest my hand. So far so good.
