I have never been able to get my bass guitars to tune as accurately with any other unit, including the Korg units and the built in tuner found in some multi-effects...it would only be better if this thing was a rack unit. However, being able to carry it easily from gig to gig where I might not be using my own rig is a plus. I love the backlight function for tuning in a not so well lit area.
Model Year: 2003
Price: $99.00 Canadian (new)
Where Obtained: Long & McQuade-Lakeshore (Burlington)
Features:
Buttons are as follows: guitar/bass function; Chromatic function; sound; pitch; auto/manual; note; Flat; open tuning; OCT ADJ. There's mic for acoustic tuning. The power on/of switch is at the top of the unit, rather than on the front as with the TU-12, right next to the on/off switch for the back light. There is also a small speaker for the "Accu-Pitch" function. Power comes from either an adapter such as the Boss PSA120 or two AA batteries.
Sound Quality:
N/A...but I've never tuned my basses so accurately, even with a Korg GA-20, Boss TU-12, the tuner in my old Digitech unit, or Korg DTR1000!!!
Ease of Use:
As a bass guitar tuner, this is really easy to use. Proper tuning is not only indicated by the needle and the lights on either side, but by the sound emitted by the "Accu-Pitch" function. I haven't played with any of the other functions, just used the auto tuning method, but the octave adjuster looks like it will be a big help when it comes time to do set-ups/intonations.
Durability:
Hard plastic molding is never my first choice for durability, but with proper care and handling, things should be okay. I still have my TU-12 after 12 long years, and it's made by the same company with similar design, so it should be fine...
