- This was my first bass. When I bought it, there weren?´t any other lefty basses available. - Overall I am very pleased that I bought this one. - It has served me well for over six years active playing in gigs and studio. - It?´s been un-employed now for few years because I moved to 5-stringers. But I hope that changes after I?´ve defretted it and use it again as "My first bass" only fretless this time.
Features:
- Bass is made in Japan. - Body is alder, neck is maple with rosewood fretboard. - 24 frets (small), 4-strings - Originally had volume and tone, but I?´ve updated it with EMG P/J pickups. - Finnish was black (I?´ve customized that also). I have to give Yamaha a HUGE MINUS for painting all theri lefty basses black ! - I don?´t know the brand of the tuners, but they are high quality tuners. The bass has always kept it?´s tune perfectly. And I?´ve used quite a lot of different tunings with this bass.
Playability:
- Action was easy to setup and adjust intonation etc. - neck is quite thick compared to Ibanez SG and Fender Jazzers for example. - It plays nicely for that price.
Sound Quality:
- I?´ve used it thru YAMAHA B-115 -combo, SWR stack, Behringer BX300 -combo. - With that bass, so far I?´ve played mostly metal music to which it suited well. - Sound is a bit dark and not so open as it is with more expensive instruments. - It?´s been a good bass after the PUP change. And now I?´m about to defret it, cause I don?´t have a use for it otherwise (I use mainly 5-stringers these days).
Durability:
- It?´s reliable for live playing and stays in tune perfectly. - I?´ve adjusted it only when I?´ve changed the tuning of it. - There weren?´t any straplocks with it, but I use Schallers in all of my basses. - The Climate changes haven?´t affected it at all. I live in the coast area of Finland so I can tell you that we DO have those a lot. I?´ve also taken it with airplane few times without problems.

It was my first bass. It was inexpensive - and it got me started into the "bass guitar" world of music. It would be a great bass for a beginner. If it were lost or stolen I probably would not replace it because I have learned that there are better choices to suit the needs of my music and playing abilities. This was purchased for me to see how I would like the bass guitar - and it served its purpose well!!
Model Year: 1999
Price: $200.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Sides Family Music - Williamsport, PA
Features:
This bass is made in Japan. The body is alder and the neck is maple with a 24 fret rosewood fretboard. It has a split P-style pick up. The only two controls are for tone and volume. It uses a low mass bridge and the hardware is in chrome.
Playability:
The neck is a little wide for my hands, and is the most difficult of my three basses for me to navigate. I would rate my Hofner Cavern and Fender MIM Jazz bass as superior in versatility. The tone control is absolutely useless. It only serves to increase string noise. With the tone control off, the bass has a nice deep and punchy more acoustic ound.
Sound Quality:
The RBX260 has a very full acoustic sound. I use a newly installed sound system where I play with myriads of mixing options and etc., so I cannot illucidate further on this - my practice amp, a Peavey, treats all of my basses more or less the same. The Yamaha has a little less buzz on the bottom than the Fender Jazz bass.
Durability:
The Yamaha has proven to be very solid. There is not much to go wrong. I have played this bass 3 or 4 times a month in performance for the last three years without a single problem, and it is the only bass I have that has been kept in a gig bag - still no problems.
