Okay, I've been beta testing software for a long time, but this is already more stable than any microsoft product i've used. CDex 1.50 Beta 7 is the latest version and I recommend this over the 1.40 release varient.
Simple to use for the Beginner, yet powerful enough for the more advanced user, the sound quality is excelent (128b MP3).
The old (1.4) refused to rip a few disc's, including the Gorillaz Clint Eastwood (so far beta 7 has given me no problems in this regard), and beta 7 sometimes refuses to close the CDDB box automatically (just click Cancel).
On the otherhand, it has never crashed, and will rip a full cd in less than 10 minutes on my (admitedly powerful) system. Try it, it'll only cost you the download time!
Price: $0.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Online
Features:
A good fast cd/DVD-rom is the only real requirement for CDex. I Love the Ok/X success/Fail indication that is shown after each track is ripped (I wish all rippers would do this).
You can rip to Wave or compressed format, with a choice including OGG and you can also rip partial tracks.
The current beta is stable and has shown only minor bugs (see above).
Ease of Use:
The best thing is the ease of use. While the Beta has replaced the Icon words with pictures (a bit messy), it's still very easy to use.
If you have problems, then you can change a huge number of ripping options, including the read-overlap time. This is the only part that could cause problems for a beginner.
