Great dvd for any Flea fans. Flea talks alot about his different playing styles and his bass playing career. He jams with Chad Smith frequently throughout the video. Shows just how easy he makes it look, but its not, he slows some riffs down to show you and they are still mind boggling!

Well i thought this would have instruction on how to play but its really just flea explaining his outlook on improvision and just straight jamming. however he does show his slap and pop technique by really slowing it down and showing you each move he makes for a few of his slap routines. this video is worth it even if you dont learn anything simply because its a really bomb jam session with his drummer. and plus how could you go wrong watching flea play bass . . .
Suitable for all skill levels of bassists

This dvd is brilliant, what an inspiration this man is to so many young players. Even though flea admits he knows nothing about theory, just from watching him play you can pick so much up from him as his style is so unique. After watching it for the 1st time it made me think that there are no limits with this instrument and you just play in a style that suits you. I've said that this is suitable for advanced players but really anyone can learn something from it. Of course it all depends on what style you play and prefer but whatever your into I would still recomend checking this out. The only thing I would moan about is the length of it although it's around 1 hour long I wouldn't mine it being longer. There's also a booklet included with the DVD containing some of the riffs flea plays.

These are theexact words!! the video is an introspective and live performance improvisation with drummer chad smith.flea raps about his bass as his vehicle of communication of the things that are floating around the room or whatever he's about that day or that moment with friend and host the late river phoenix. flea discusses the theories, philosophies, styles, sounds and techniques he uses when performing and jamming in the style he's all about...slapping,plucking,thumping and popping are about to new heights, bringing the genres of rock, funk, punk, jazz and latin together through fleas bass like never before. flea reviews the technique he uses to achive his unique style and sound...using open stringsdouble string plucking, left and right hand exercises, variations on slapping, his use of droning. the main thing i learned from the video was that how can i play with my soul and really be honest to myself.it's the main goal that if any musician can achive,he'd be a master player(i'm not one.i'm trying to be!!!) the music notation is poor, becouseit deals with a way of improvisation, but it doesen't hurt the overall thing,it really works. i love the ending part that the late river asks flea to express a special feeling with his playing, you shouls see that!
