Buy it! one problem and its a very tiny one is that the bass is quite big... i am 6ft 3 and it comes up to the top of my hip the bass player in one of my bands uses it for gigs all the time though and he is only 5ft tall and finds it easy to play! good good good! buy it!
Model Year: 2004
Where Obtained: gak.co.uk
Features:
Im not sure were its made its got 1 jazz pickup and 1 precision pickup active electronics read the description for more info
Playability:
Its great for slap bass its the second best bass ive ever played but the other bass i played was a replica of Fleas bass which cost 1500 this is the best bass you can buy for this amount of money!
Sound Quality:
I use a behringer ultrabass 120 watt amp together you can make pretty much any sound you desire with the setup (well without using effects of course)
Durability:
Its an extremely durable bass and has to stand alot of bashing and gigs etc. verry reliable. theres only one visible mark were a tiny biy of paint has chipped off... this happened when it got used as a weapon to beat up my drum kit (the drums got very messed up) but i just wanted to say how durable this bass really is!

When I was shopping for bass two years ago, I've looked at Mexican Fender Jazz, Peavey Millenium, and others (it's hard to remember after two years :) I've chosen this one because of P/J pickups and finding no issues with it. And I do not regret this choice. I don't know if I would buy this bass again if it were lost or stolen. Not because of any complaints, but I'd look for something else now (5 strings). This bass could be improved by replacing electronics (or making it passive) to fix those sound problems. The best thing about the bass is playability and durability, the worst - sound quality. Have a look at this bass if you are shopping in this price range. You might like it. I do.
Price: $375.00 € (new)

Features:
Made in Malaysia, alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard. 4 strings, 24 frets. The controls are volume, pickup pan (with detention at the middle), treble boost/cut, bass boost/cut. P/J pickups with covered pole pieces. Active 9V preamp with 2 band EQ. Body and headstock finish is glossy black (finger marks look very prominent on it, so it kinda forces you to clean your bass often :) Hardware is black too. The body style is unique for Yamaha RBX series. The bridge is conventional top-load. The tuners are noname non-locking Yamaha tuners. I rate features 4, IMHO the only missing feature that should be present is additional EQ band.
Playability:
Playability is very good. I do my own setups (sometimes with help of seasoned pros) and after couple years of owning this bass I've nailed down its setup. The action is not the lowest imaginable but still quite low with no fret buzz. The neck is very slim and suits my playing very well. Playability-wise, this bass is as good as basses in 1000€ range I've looked at. No flaws. After setup intonation is practically perfect up to 24 fret. Great.
Sound Quality:
I play it through Hughes & Kettner Quantum QC-412 and sometimes through Trace Elliot Commando 12, no effects. Through Quantum it sounds great (but, through Quantum everything sounds great...). Through Commando - not very great, the sound is coloured with some sort of "cheap electronics" accent. Think of small FM radio. I think that's expected of active preamps in this price range. I play classic rock, metal, slap funk, some blues. Classic rock and metal sounds are covered well, slap sound is OK, blues sound is a bit too bright, even with treble cut. But nothing too wrong. The P-only and J-only sounds give no surprises, they are OK. P/J sound lacks some highs and is too generic. Overally, I rate the sound 3. It could be better, but still it's OK.
Durability:
I've owned this bass for two years. The bass is reliable for steady live playing. The setup should be made twice a year because of climate changes, minor tweaks sometimes have to be made after changing strings (even when the new set has the same gauge. Go figure.) Hardware is holding very well, although volume pot will need cleaning quite soon now. Strap buttons got loose after first year, fixed with toothpicks, no problems since. The tuners hold tuning quite well, for two weeks or more with intensive playing. Rating 5 here.

I trust Yamaha guitars, I have played and owned plenty from this manufacturer to know that they constantly make good instrument for the money. Since I think I'm just a beginner, I wanted a good instrument, suitable to learn but not the cheapest one I could find. I'd like more control on the pickups level (a switch would help me more since I'm mainly a guitar player, probably I'm quite ignorant on this issue). I'm happy with this bass. I always look in a musical instrument (any musical instrument) a sound that inspire me. I'm not a good bass player, but I've played guitar for many years (more than 15) and I can tell if an instrument inspire you through it's sound or if you have new musical ideas from playing it. Well, from the very first moment I thought "Hey, this thing sounds good, this riff sounds cool... What if I try this other idea..." so there is the inspiration, and I think that you really need this to create music, that's what playing is all about, not looking cool, nor being famous, nor being he most popular guy around: the really important stuff is to create great, fun, enjoyable music. I thinks this bass helps me to achieve this.

Features:
Made in Taiwan, Solid Alder Body, Maple Neck w/24 Frets, Rosewood fingerboard, Dual P/J Style Pickups w/Active Electronics pickup, black hardware, mist raspberry, 24 frets, non locking tuners. I think the best features are the active electronics and the 24 frets.
Playability:
Since I don't have strong fingers yet, I like a low action. The factory setup was decent. The neck feels really comfortable. I haven't play for too long, so I can't say how it is compared witho other basses. I didn't find any flaw. The finish is mate, I prefer glossy finishes, but it looks good anyway.
Sound Quality:
I'm using a Zoom PS-02 and I hardly need to connect to an amp, since I mostly use this to practice, learn and to play basic bass parts in my music. I guess this is a rock bass. With this bass I think that you can obtain a wide range of sounds. It sounds full and warm. Not very noisy. Actually I can't say how good the sound is, since this is just the second bass I've ever buy. To me is very good, and I know of other more seasoned players that like it.
Durability:
This thing is really solid. Everything feels just right. The strap-locks are pretty average, nothing specially good. It looks durable, but I still don't know.

Playability:
I can get so many different styles on this bass, it's amazing with the dual pickups and the A.Electronics keep everything perfect. The neck is just the right size for me to move my fingers around without much difficulty I haven't encountered any flaws with this bass
Sound Quality:
I use a Peavey Microbass, no effects I play lots of stuff from funk to punk With all the features it'll suit anybody and if you switch musical styles it won't be a problem changing the sound accordingly
Durability:
I have played my bass non-stop for 3 hours so it should hold up well I only adjust the tuning about once every 2 weeks Only real chipping it has is 2 small scratches on the head from hitting furniture, other than that it's in tip-top condition

Um..its a bass. I wouldnt of bought it if it didn't play well. I preferred it to the bunch of Fender and other random basses in the store.
Sound Quality:
I've used it with my Yamaha GA-10 Watt amp, a Squier 15 Watt Bassamp, and a Fender Bassman, and its sounded kickass on all of them. That's pretty conclusive. The strings don't buzz, and it seems well suited to the styles I've put it to so far (pretty much anything).
Durability:
It's taken it's fair share of knocks in my room..hitting the wall every so often, and falling due to my poor strap, and has no cracks or anything. A couple of small dents because of the contact with walls..but thats about it.
