Fender Flatwounds

Made by Fender

Description These Fender flats are really nice strings. They are flatwounded, so they don't have the knurled, scratchy grooves that most strings have.

Compared to other flats I've used they're about medium tension and real rough. lots of imperfections in the build of these strings. Only strings i've ever played that hurt to play. Guess they sound OK though and if you like pain then go for it. As far as I'm concerned the worst strings I've played yet.
Price: $18.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar center
Features:
45-105 Stainless flatwounds
Sound Quality:
Sound ok. In my quest for the perfect string for my custom fretless these were like the third or fourth. And easily the worst. Kind of like playing razor wire.
Durability:
Don't like these strings they just seem to be built poorly compared to every other string i've played. I don't know how long they last and don't care to find out.

I think that ebery bassist should try just one set of flats, i think that more than half will never go back to rounds,
Price: $20.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Mars Music
Features:
.125 - .40 guage, i think.
  • The strings are made out of nickel
  • Ball ends,
  • The flats are very smooth. I have played some sick flats before where they are rough and hard to play
  • Sound Quality:
I use thses flats oin a Fender P-Bass with a jazz bass neck, usually just for the school jazz band. They ound very decent, a low and dark sound, and have goood feel to them. NOT good for slapping though, they are a little too tight for that.
    Durability:
They are not the most durable strings i have played (Ernie Balls!!!) They go out of tune alot, and tend to make my bass buzz (which may not be the strung's fault!)
