It is said that you pay for what you get. In this scenario, this is definately true. The Budda Phatbass has to be the warmest, most natural sounding bass overdrive that I have ever used. It has attitude, plenty of variety, and, most importantly, two 12at7 tubes.
Price: $150.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Ebay
Features:
The unit is AC powered, and it has 4 knobs: gain, bass, treble, and volume, and a basic step-on/step-off toggle switch. The Blue housing is classy, and the 'zen tone' logo which is emblazoned on the top completes the effect.
Sound Quality:
This is a great sounding deal, because of the two 12at7 pre-amp tubes on board. Even with the gain off it works great for warming up the tone of solid state amplifiers. Obviously, when the gain is cranked it is a bit noisy, but that is a problem with anything when the gain is that high.
Ease of Use:
4 knobs, 1 switch. Press and go.
Durability:
The rugged casing seems to be durable, but as with anything tubed, there is the obvious susceptability to breakage.
