+ numerous options
- no graphic or plain overall eq
Honestly, you can't go wrong with this baby!
Model Year: 2003
Price: $0.00 (1149) (new)
Where Obtained: Opsteyn Music Saloon
Features:
Well, it's got all kinds of great features! Built-in compressor 8 digital effects 32 position matrix (<- it's a modeling amp, it can pretend to be another amp ;) you can plug the PFC 4b in it, allowing you to control virtually the entire amp from a distance and it's easy controls make sure you can easily create a great sound. It's got many more great features but i'dd be typing all day. If you want to know some specific, just send me a pm or a mail (check my homepage here for both). The only feature i miss on it is a graphic EQ, every bank in the matrix has it's own eq setting and it just seems quite hard to adjust 32 eq's during a 15 minute soundcheck (if you decide to use 32 settings, that is)
Sound Quality:
I've only played my crappy, old bass through it but it sounds pretty good. I'dd love to test a high-end bass but i'm way to low on $$$ to get one. This amp is suitable for e-v-e-r-y style because it's a modeling amp you can get a vintage, modern, crispy, muddy, ... sound from it. These options are enhanced because you can also select hat kind of cabinets to model.
Ease of Use:
I think this is one of the easiest amps ever built ('xept for those 15 watt amps with only a 3 band eq). You can obtain and program any sound you want and you don't have to go through endless buttons and knobs to get there. In fact there aren't that many buttons and knobs on it, it looks kinda beginner-like when you look at it but one look into the manual and then you know this amp is packing more heat then you thought! But this is it's only downside about making those advanced or expert settings, it takes some time to get to those options (pressing buttons at the same time or for 2 seconds...) but you'll get the hang of it... One last thing perhaps, you can take it out of its original casing and put it in a rack.
Durability:
The amp is rather heavy considering its size but that's a good thing, it's in a pretty heavy wooden case. I haven't played any shows with it but i'm very sure it makes it through the night without giving up on you. I've had it for about 6 months now and i've had no trouble with it so far.

This amp is about to get stolen because i don't want to give it back! Also, I am sure to try other Peavey amps!

Sound Quality:
I would have never guessed, but this amp can create an edge for any player, any time! Sound is awesome, i have played from a Zon hyperbass, to an upright, to a Fodera. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE SOUND THIS AMP CAN ACHIEVE! Very clean and clear with enough bass and air movement that will make you mess yourself!
Ease of Use:
Once you get the jist of things, because this amp has ALOT of features, that are programmable! Slight fiddling but not to obtain a great sound! The fiddling involves the USER FRIENDLY effects. With all of it's abilities.
Durability:
Well, it's borrowed, but i did do a show with it and no problems.
