Overall Rating:
This is my second bass. I bought it to switch off with my Guild Pilot, which tended to get heavy on stage after a while. Plus the overall tone is very different and worked well for certain applications.
Model Year: 1992
Price: $350.00
Where Obtained: Music Store (used)
Features:
Made in Japan. All black Ash body with double cutaway and 24 frets. This is a four string with an Ibanez bridge. Pickups are: Ibanez P/J 'LOZ regulated 'active pickups'. The electronics are active as well. Four control knobs. Tuners by Gotoh (stock). Shielded control cavity cover.
Playability:
This bass has wonderful contours. Lightweight and well balanced. The neck is thinner than some of the guitars I've played! Very fast player. Excellent for on stage.
Sound Quality:
I play this bass through a Peavey Mark VI bass head going into a 15" speaker cab and a 4x10" cab. This bass is best suited for music that is very dynamic, such as hard rock or latin. The four knobs allow you to tune your sound and it is never a problem getting yourself to be heard over the guitar and drums. The sound is punchy, but lacks a bit of sustain. Possibly due to the light weight of the bass and wood type.
Durability:
I have owned this bass for seven years and four of those involved heavy gigging and band practices a few times a week. Never a problem. I have only replaced strings and batteries as general maintenance. Never needed adjustments. All controls and hardware are very durable.
