Ok, My new bass has the top strap button on the back of the bass horn...(think like gibson Likes to do) I have dunlops strap locks on 6 guitars and basses...never a problem...I got these since I would have to get a new strap due to the strap knob posistion...Its on a Yamaha BX-1...I read reviews that said not to use dunlops on axes with backside buttons...so I thought, Why not...and got these... I like them alot...I am impressed...
Price: $20.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar Center
Features:
Ok, Toe to toe... Dunlops, if the lock ever failed(or the button was pushed on it), (which in ten years hasn't happend to me) the bass is failing to the ground on the Schaller, if the knob was pulled or it failed, the bass still is secure...due to the grove and sleave method of retaining... right now Id say the Dunlops are faster for switching axes, but its unfair to say for sure with me not using the Schaller enough to judge... I will say I like the method of strap atachment to the lock, on the Dunlop, Its a pain in the butt pin, that requires tools and alot of anoyance attaching it to a think strap.... the Schaller is a simple bolt washer nut idea...briliant... I whish there was a way I could put them on my martin...
Durability:
This thing is going no where...no way to break it...great design...

I tried Dunlop, but had the retaining system fail within a year! These are easier and will out last most straps!

Pick these up. also, you might want to go down to the local hardware store and buy longer screws... That's what I did, and I've never had a problem.. You'll also, if you have a Fender, have to drill a new hole because Fender's stock holes are too large... What I did was get some of that patching compound where you have to mix two tubs of goop... I filled the hole with that stuff and let it dry... I then re-drilled my hole into the old hole... I don't suggest doing this unless you're really comfortable with it...

Would I trust my basses with anything else? No. I trust these more than their cases and stands to keep something from hitting the ground.

I tried the Dunlops, but something about putting a pin into a strap button just didn't make sense, and pushing a button instead of pulling on something makes even less sense. Thus, the Schallers are perfect.
Price: $10.00 (new)
Features:
I've installed a pair of these on every instrument I own. Since I bought them, I haven't had a single guitar/bass slip off the strap while jumping around on stage.
Durability:
The finish begins to wear off after six months' use in high friction areas, but no structural damage actually occurs. Schaller makes just about the best of everything and these are no exception.

I looked at the Dunlop strap-lok system as well and these strap-locks just looked more sturdy and reliable. This product could be better if it did taxes and cooked. My favorite aspect is the heavy-duty nature of the product. I'd bet it could hold me from a strap. I think when looking for some strap-locks, these are the ones for you.
Price: $15.95 (new)
Where Obtained: Currier's Music World
Features:
The most useful feature is that when it locks in it takes two hand to get it off. One if you're strong. I use the chrome strap-locks, they look sharp.
Durability:
It is very reliable. I locked them on and them held my bass by the strap just above the strap-lock. I have a heavy bass and the strap-locks did their job. No complaints. I even swung it around. Both strap-locks serve their purpose. This is the first Schaller product I've used. They make bridges and tuners as well but I just have their strap-locks. The construction is very heavy-duty. This product is high quality all the way.
