Yup, I'd buy it again if it were stolen. That's after I found the poor bastard that took it and TWISTED OFF HIS HEAD AND SPIKED IT ONTO THE FLOORS OF NIGHTMARE THAT YOU COULDN'T POSSIBLY IMAGINE!!!!! There are not many of these basses, so if you find one, do yourself a favor and snatch it up.
Model Year: 1997
Price: $500.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Superior Music, Marquette, MI
Features:
The neck plate says USA, but the headstock reveals it's true origan. JAPAN! No big deal, considering the price I paid. This was new old stock and the store just wanted it out of there!!!!! It's not a typical acoustic/electric bass. In fact, the body is no wider than a regular P-bass. It's got an F-hole in it's solid spruce top with natural finish. Beautiful Rosewood fretboard, also has a rosewood bridge which is the string through body type. It's got a piezo pickup in the bridge and also Fender Lace Sensor Precision pickups. You can blend between the pickups. When it is on piezo only, it sounds pretty much like an upright. Very nice. When it's on just the Sensors, it growls like a mofo. Very nice sounding bass with many tonal options.
Playability:
I bought it and have not done anything to the setup, other than change strings. It plays like a dream. This is my only fretless bass and I'm just starting to get comfortable on it. It's a whole new world compared to fretted.
Sound Quality:
I use this bass for recording and in an acoustic trio. I run from the bass to my pedal board, which consists of Boss Limiter, Boss Octave, Boss Chorus, Sansamp Bass Driver, straight into the mixing board. It sounds KILLER!!!!! You have serious control over your tone with the knobs. I absolutely love it. I would never use it in my other band, which is a balls to walls hard rock band. My Spectors suit that band just fine. But for the trio (and some recording) I love this bass.
Durability:
It's a Fender. Built very well. It's hollow, so I don't exactly use it for a battleaxe, but it holds up nicely.
