Good amp overall, maybe not enough power for the TVX412 to maintain enough headroom in some situations but great for medium to semi large gigs. Very good value for what you get and the performance of the amp.
Model Year: 2002
Price: $0.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Caldwell Music
Features:
Simple and easy to use controls, I would have liked to have seen a graphic EQ but the dials work well enough.
Sound Quality:
Great sound through a Peavey TVX412 on an Ibanez BTB405QM. I can dial in a grunge sound and then go to a smooth jazz or a punchy funk easily.
Ease of Use:
Easy enough to dial in the sound you want, I liked my BFX100 with a graphic EQ a little better in this department but for an amp in this price range, it is just fine.
Durability:
The amp itself has lived through about a year of gigs and hauling it around in the back seat and has survived fairly well. The vinyl cover however is thin and easily peels and tears from the wood. I'll be replacing the vinyl with carpet soon.

This amp ROCKS!!! Hey,man I`ve played alot of different amps and for the money, you can`t beat this amp.Lots of control features, little toys to perfect your sound or to just experiment with.Very easy to use,set up,plugg in and play.EFX loop if you need it,durable(i play weekly this amp is tough, example:I spilled a beer on top of it more than a month a go at a gig,it snapped, crackled, and popped for 5 min.then went right on rock`n,hasn`t slowed down any.I use one or sometimes two SansAmps with my head this gives me an extra -20db per amp and up to two extra amp sounds to choose from, with an amazing amount of power boost.
Sound Quality:
I mainly use my Fender p-bass,but sometimes use a Bently(not sure about this bass,no info on maker, would like some info.)All the sound I ever want lows, highs, mids, all of them distinctive tones. This gives lots of oposition`s to any style of music you want to play.I play southern rock, classic rock, blues, jazz, funk, slap & tap, this amp can handle it all.The fan is a little noisey, but not when your playing, and on stage you can never hear it.
Ease of Use:
Like I said easy to use...

When I went shopping I took my time. After my bad experience with the Laney Amp I'd previously used, I asked around at Active Bass and received some great advice, I tried Hartke, Yamaha, Pro Audio, many others, and in fact several shop fulls of amps over a three month period. I finally chose the Peavey Nitrobass for the following reasons: Sound Quality: Awesome! the way a bass SHOULD sound - ballsy! Grunt power: More than enough for my requirements. Durability: Heavy construction, it looks like it was designed for being on the road. Price: Don't know how it compares with USA prices but in Australia it compares favourably with other brands of the same quality. In all honesty, it was an overall appeal I think, but mainly just that wonderful sound. I feel that I shouldn't give it 5 stars for everything, seldom are things THAT good, but if I am to be honest I just have to.

The Peavey Nitrobass 300watts RMS @4ohms amp head icludes [in my opinion] 30 years of Peavey experience, heritage and reliablity. While Peavey may not be the absolute pinacle of bass amps, they do represent good solid value and can put up with a fair bit of abuse when "on the road". It includes a 3 band EQ with sweepable mids. [shiftable mid-range control], DDT speaker protection circuit, effects loop, instrument level tuner output, and balanced DI out. The contour control for more tonal variation is very neat, and helps to produce a good range of tonal variety. There is a pad switch [-10dB] which acts as a selector when using either a passive or active bass. Also fitted are Pre/Post-EQ send switch for XLR jack, Ground lift switch for XLR switch, Preamp out/power amp in jacks, and a DDT speaker protection defeat switch. I cannot see any logical reason for the speaker protection defeat switch, so I run it activated all the time.
Sound Quality:
The cooling fan is a trifle noisy when idle, but is of no consequence when playing. I use no special effects with it, playing mainly blues, country, and rock. I have tried slap quite successfully through this amp, although slap is not a style I often use. I play it through a Peavey 300w 8ohm Black Widow speaker cab which gives what I can only describe as awesome sound. For a second speaker I also [sometimes only] add a Laney 250w 8ohm speaker cab, which was originally a Bass amp. [After the amp blew, and was found to be too expensive to repair, I turned the combo into a speaker cab]. I use the Laney 250/8w as a foldback. The Peavey Nitrobass is a compact box design which produces: 450w into 2 ohms 300w into 4 ohms 170w into 8 ohms So with my 2 x 8ohm speaker cabs I get 4ohms total impedannce, and 150watts to each. I have all the grunt I need.
Ease of Use:
As regards to Ease of use, it comes with a comprehensive manual, including wiring diagram, recommended settings [photographic settings on amp control panel] for either "Rock Settings, Slap Settings, or Blues/Country settings". When the amp is setup thus all th recommended settings work very well, but I have found that I personally prefer a tweak or two to personalise the sound a bit. After you do your impedance calculations and decide on what size speaker cabs you are going to connect to the Nitrobass, its a case of simply plug in and go. It's very easy to set up.
Durability:
The Amp is of very rugged and strong construction [as you'd expect from Peavey]. It is really built to last. The longest I have played continuosly through it is 5 hours. The fingers of my left fretting hand were blue to the second joints! but the amp just kept on keeping on.
