I already owned my p-bass but this baby came to me. a friend offered it to me at a cheap price and although I'd never heard of westone before, after I saw it and played it, I had to have it. My favourite thing about this bass is the sound, it shook my drummers TV off its table once. Bad point... having to keep putting batteries in the thing! (and it's not made by Fender). If anything happened to this bass and another one came my way, I would buy it.
Where Obtained: a friend
Made in Japan, it has a maple body (very solid and heavy) and a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. double cutaway body and a very slim neck. It's got 1 volume and 2 tone knobs (1 passive, 1 active) and active switch and another i dont really know what it does but makes the sound so big, u could destroy houses with it! it has p-bass style active pickups. Mine is black with gold hardware and the body is a bit p-bass looking but smaller and no scratchplate. The bridge is a fixed adjustable split tail piece and the Westone non-locking turners do the job.
The neck is quite a bit thinner than my p-bass. I play a lot of pearl jam/blind melon type tunes and although it does the job and has a great sound, I still prefer my
p-bass (im a fender fan). The weight of this thing has it's flaws, during long band practice sessions, it's given me backache in the past.
This bit I cannot fault. My amp is a 60 watt Marshall bass combo and it sounds great though that. I have found that Elite Stadium 45 gauge strings work best on it. I play different styles but mainly using my fingers doing grunge/rock stuff but it also sounds great using a pick and my mate loves playing slap on it. The Control over the sound with the actives is amazing and sounds great in studio and on stage. I'm in the proccess of turning it into a fretless bass for a little project.
This beast can withstand a beating. By the look of the paint job, it has already taken a beating before I had it and I'm not the most carefull person in the world. It does need some setup work on it at the moment, but I will do that after I've finished doing my mods to it. the strap locks etc are still the original and are perfect.
