First off, i played this bass through the crappiest amp (20w) on the planet, and it still sounded good. i would have no reservations taking this on stage should the opportunity arise.

Anything I've tried to play on this bass it has handled. There is some buzzing from the frets, but it is barely noticeable. Overall this bass is easy to play and learn on.
Sound Quality:
I use a Crate BT25 with this bass and it sounds great. Works good for most every style. I'm using it for rock and funk and I'm very pleased with the sound I'm hearing. This bass would be better in the studio although I would not be afraid to take it on stage.
Durability:
I've hit this bass against walls, drop it, have it fall out of its stand, and much more and their is not even a scratch on it. I transport it a lot to my guitarist's house a lot and it has held up very well.

I bought my GSR200BK after a six-month quest, and it's THE BEST! If it was stolen, first I would cry, then write a song about it, and then go to the store and buy the same model without thinking...okay maybe in a different finish. It could be improved with a 3band EQ, but primarily with a mid-notch switch. Everything on this bass is good except that slapping souds kinda screamy when you turn the highs all up(especially with new strings). It's a really good bass for beginners and half-professionals(like me),and it can be used for any style. Overall - a straight 10!
Model Year: 2006
Price: $0.00 Euros (new)

Features:
Made in Indonesia. Not sure about the materials. 4string, 22 frets. Ctrls:Vol-bridge, vol-neck, active preamp and high band knobs. One inverted P-style(neck) and one J-style(bridge);passive Ibanez pickups. Active electronics (9V supply). Metallic black finish (looks cool, but "attracts" fingermarks). It's not classicaly shaped-it's kinda futuristic ;-) and looks supercool. Has regular Ibanez tuners, but they work really well. Bridge is regular.
Playability:
The neck is a dream-I lowered the strings maximaly, and it still rules! it's kinda tender if you keep the strings low, but it's easy to get used to it. It's better than ANYTHING in it's price range
Sound Quality:
I used it with lots of amps and it only made some probems with a couple of them, and it's average when used with any effects. I was into hardcore, metal, rock, funk, pop and a bunch of genres with it, and it handles really good. Mostly played funk, blues and pop with it, and it suits all my needs. Sounds good when slapping and fingering, but not so great when tapping. the sound is versatile-play a smooth jazzy tone in the morning, and a KoRn-like pucher in the evening :-), but the sound sometimes becomes syntetic(when you turn the highs down). I don't think I'll make any mods/changes. It's not noisy if you know how to use it. It's good for the stage, and I don't know about the studion (haven't recorded anything with it yet). I would rate it with a six here :-)
Durability:
Overall-good. Minimal adjustments,it's reliable and stuff. Had it for a year and is still working perfectly

A great, great first bass. Beats the hell out of a Squire. It could play a little smoother, and certainly could have better electronics, but for all that, it is solid and reliable, has a good sound, looks cool, and is just great for learning bass.
Model Year: 2002
Price: $210.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar Center
Features:
Basic bass. 4 string. P/J style passive pickups and electronics - split J's at neck, P at bridge. rosewood fretboard. Agathis body. maple neck. tuning pegs - 2 up, 2 down. thin neck. 2 volume knobs, one tone knob. i like the bridge. blue.
Playability:
I play harder than I should, so I like a high action. I also put thicker strings on it. Those two things eliminated most of the fretbuzz I get with this bass. The thin neck was great for learning. The bass plays well - MUCH better than other low end basses in its range. But plays like sandpaper compared to higher end basses.
Sound Quality:
The P pickup hums a lot, and I get a lot of fret buzz unless I set the action up high. I can get a fair variety of sounds from it though, varying the tone and pickup levels, from bright and funky to dark and menacing. The sound variety is not however, as dynamic as higher end P/J basses.
Durability:
I got a nice splinter sliding up the fretboard once - had to file that down (always bring bandaids). And the strap pegs come loose all the time. Other than that, I can bang it all night against the floor, walls, and ceiling, without it even going out of tune. although winter affects the tuning somewhat.

Price: $300.00 (new)
Where Obtained: stars music store in petaluma, ca
Features:
This bass was made in idonesia, and has a Agathis body with a Rosewood fretboard, maple neck, and 22 frets.
Playability:
I simply love this bass, the sleek neck allows for easier and quicker playing, especially for beginners. The only two flaws are mainly my fault though, the shiny finish gets finger prints on it, and the output can be knocked loose if you step on your cord. Other than that this bass is awesome for beginers.
Sound Quality:
This bass has a surprisingly warm sound to it, but messing around with pickups you can get a much more muted sound to the music. The sound dosen't compare to any other beginer basses I have tried, this is much higher quality and I recommend this to any beginer or to even an intermediate player on a low budget. This bass slaps well, and also has a good twangy sound when picking if you adjust your amp right.
Durability:
This is durable if you don't abuse it too much, I think it would be better to buy a more expensive bass if you play live a lot. I have only had it for four months and the only problem is the output, which is my own fault.

If you are a beginner bass player then this is the bass for you. If my bass broke or something happened to it, i would definatly buy another. I chose this bass because of the sound quality and the overall feel of the bass. It could be better by getting better body wood. My favorite part of this bass is the fretboard and the neck because the smooth feel of the rosewood fretboard and the smooth wood neck. If you are a beginner and would like a great longlasting bass then buy the IbanezGSR200, it comes in black, jewel blue, and red.
Model Year: 2001
Price: $230.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Ontario Music
Features:
This 4 stringed bass is everything a beginner could ask for. Great tone, 2 volume and 1 tone controls, 22 fret rosewood fingerboard. Made in Indonesia, can we trust them??? Yes, we can because this is a great bass. J style and Precision pickups. No active or passive electronics but still a great tone and overall versatility of the sound, great for blues and rock music.
Playability:
When I bought this bass, I had to do some major tuneups on the action and the bridge, and the trussrod. When you buy it, I recommend taking it to a pro to have it set up, just so it sounds better and so it is easier to play. Easy to play on though, the smooth wood finished neck makes it easy to slide from 1st fret to 22nd. I've played many other beginners basses such as the GSR190 to the Yamaha Rbx170 and they dont' compare to the sound and durability of this bass.
Sound Quality:
This bass comes with Jazz style and Precision style pickups. They make for great tone when you play lots of different styles of music on your bass. Only flaw is when the tone is used, it makes a loud humm and it sounds scratchy when you play. The bright sound is great when playing blues, jazz, or rock. I've played many different basses, but this has one of the better sound qualities than some $1200 basses.
Durability:
This is a good live bass when playing shows, sometimes i'll use it as a backup. Although i'm not so sure the kind of wood used for this bass but my strap locks have seemed to be loosening a lot, they need re tightening every couple of days. As for trussrod, bridge, action, innotation adjustments, every 6 months is good, even if it doesn't need it, adjust anyways. My tuning machines are begining to rattle around the headstock, but my controls are holding up great. The climate doesn't affect the way your bass feels or plays when traveling and the climate changes drastically, it stays in good condition.

I was also looking at a couple of squiers but their playability just sucks compared to this one's. I think I'll probably end up putting in new pots, maybe modify it a little bit.
Model Year: 2002
Price: $205.00 (new)
Where Obtained: musician's friend
Features:
This is a great bass! it's really light weight, and the soundgear neck is very small but has surprisingly good sustain. I think it's a 32' scale with 21 frets. a P pickup at the neck barely hums, and a J pickup at the bradge does hum a bit. two volume pots (one for each pickup) one tone. I have the transparent red finish and it looks great. it gets a really deep kind of sound so it can be hard to get a snappy, bright kind of sound. my only complaints is that they used really cheap pots.
Playability:
I like the action a little on the high side and at the first few frets it dosent do so good, I wish the nut was bigger. but for a lower action you should be all set. the neck is really great it plays almost like a guitar, I've gotten so used to it, it feels strange playing basses with more normal sized necks. the only flaw is the truss rod needs a little turn now and then but I dont really mind that.
Sound Quality:
I play it through a big hartke, and it sounds pretty dark but its not hard to get a warmer tone. I play in a metal band and its perfect. I also play in a, i guess itt would be like alt. rock and it sounds good there too, except i play through 2 practice amps there, one with distortion, so its gets a little covered up. the j pickup hums a good bit so it sounds better with that pickup at like 3/4 volume. its really good on stage because of its light weight. you could take it off throw into the air, catch it, beat the drummer, put it on, spin around with it, and not be tired at all. sore shoulders stay away for a long time with this bass
Durability:
The truss has to be adjusted semi-frequently maybe a little more often than the strings. the knobs always fall of, so i just leave them off. climate changes dont really affect it all that much. and it looks and feels great.

I looked at a few cheaper basses, squire, rougue, no-name brands, this one caught my attention because of the good things I've heard about Ibanez. I tried it out and I loved it, it erased all thoughts of the other basses in my limited budget. This bass could use a little electronics work but its almost perfect for the price. If this bass happened to be stolen someday, I would probably replace it depending on the cash I had, If I had a little extra I would just go out and buy a MIM Fender. This bass is the perfect bass for beginners with a limited budget. I would recommend this over any bass in this price range anyday.
Model Year: 2001
Price: $210.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar Center
Features:
This 4 string bass has a basic p-bass style body giving it a somewhat light and balanced feel. There are two pickups; one is a p-bass pickup, one is a j-bass pickup. The p-bass pickup gives it a meatier tone while the j-bass pickup gives it a slappy, poppy sound. Each of these has its own adjustable volume knobs. This bass also features a third tone knob which can make for some fun slap bass or a nice punk-type sound while using a pick.
Playability:
This bass plays fairly well, the neck is fairly thin, not as thin as say a Fender Jazz Bass but its a good size. I have played a few other basses such as a cheap Rougue bass and this feels much sturdier. Theres no real big flaws with this bass, its almost perfect for any beginner.
Sound Quality:
I use my bass with an old peavey amp with a BW 15 inch speaker. I play it a little too loud (in order to hear myself over the guitarist :( ) and it gets a bit fuzzy, but the tone still shines through and makes it sound great. I play a bit of everything and this bass can handle most any musical style with its tone variability. The sound can be compared to some top-of-the-line basses out there. I was considering some new electronics or some altering of them because when the botton tone knob is all the way up, there is some loud buzzing noise, but it might just be my old amp.
Durability:
This bass is sturdy enough. It can be dropped and beaten with little apparent wear. Mine seems to stay in tune fairly well and it fares great in climate changes. Hardware is as perfect as the day I bought it.

The neck is a good size, it may be a little "too" wide for younger bassist but im 17 and its fine for me. Isnt too heavy and has a strong patch cord jack.
Sound Quality:
Superb sound with and without Effects. These are mostly used in the new metal bands such as korn and limp bizkit but they are also very useful for other bands. It has a strong and bold sound when used with a quality amp (Yorkville bass master 100w is mine)
Durability:
It has fallen a few times so far and not a scratch. Its very hard to break or wreck.

I am an intermediate player and I own a 5-string squier, a 4 string Peavy, and I brought this one because it was in my price range and I heard good things. Overall a very nice bass for beginners and intermediate.
Playability:
Overall nice playablility. Little bit of a Fretbuzz problem but that can be overlooked most of the time.

I run all my basses through a Peavy 40, a Yamaha 500 power amp, and 2 15' monitors. Very nice sound. Great low end punch.

I use this bass with a Carvin PB100-15, and it sounds pretty nice. Quite good for a $230 bass.

The GSR200 is a starter bass, with all the basics built in. I think it's a great bass for the price, only 200$. I looked at a Fender Jazz and a Squier, but the tone on the Ibanez sounded better. If this bass was stolen, I probably wouldn't buy it back, just because I now own an excellent Ernie Ball. However, if this was the only bass I owned, and I was on a strict budget, I would purchase this nice starter bass again.
Model Year: 2000
Price: $204.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Musicansfriend
Features:
The GSR200 is a cheap bass that I got because I was just starting out, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money to buy a bass that I would never use in case I didn't like playing. It has P and J-style passive pickups, master volume, and two tone controls, and ordinary tuners and bridge. It has a maple neck and it was made in Indonesia.
Playability:
This bass has good overall playability. The neck is thin, and I can slide up and down it easily. The fretbuzz can be a bit of a problem if your technique is bad, but that can always be solved with practice.
Sound Quality:
The sound quality is great, maybe the best thing about the GSR200. I use a Fender amp, and the tone quality is equal to many five to six hundred dollar basses. I think it's a great slapper, and the plucking is nice as well. The tone is rather warm, just the way I like it. Like I said, the fretbuzz can be annoying, but if you have good technique, there's nothing to worry about.
Durability:
The durability is ok. The strap knobs came off after a few years, but that can be fixed easily. Otherwise, it's pretty sturdy.

Playability:
It was set up perfect, except the strap button on the horn was screwed up, the screw to too short and too thin, but that was easily fixed. best begginer bass, p/j, to find out what sound you like.
Sound Quality:
I use a peavey microbass, i play punk, alternative rock stuff, but this could play anything with the p/j set up. like i said, best begginer bass i think.

It could be better if the hardward wasnt chrome, but it doesnt really have many flaws. I would definately buy this bass if it was stolen, seeing as im buying another soon for my Drop D bass. The best aspect of this bass is how it takes to slapping. And the worst is prolly, the chrome hardware. But some people like that buisness.

I'm sure if you go higher in the series you can get that versatility and still maintain the quality.

Neck is stained, not sure what wood is underneath. S/S/H pick-ups. Black finish with 2 tone and 1 volume controls. Great looking bass.
Playability:
The neck is pretty smooth but there are small imperfections, nothing that hampers playing. After playing a $500 Warwick, I came running back to this bass for its smooth, silky quality.
Sound Quality:
This was my first bass and its great. A terrific bass for beginners. I spent 1 year with it and have gotten all kinds of sounds out of it. From jazz to rock, funk to punk. I don't know all the gritty details but I know that if you're playing a cheap bass or are looking for your first, this is a great place to start.
Durability:
A durable bass. Tone quality will hold for a long time. You hardly even need to tune this bass if it isn't carried in a gig-bag. Eveything works great after about 1 and 1/2. The neck/frets are starting to show some wear and tear but it still plays great.

Features:
4 string, 22 fret. Made in Indonesia. Maple neck, agathis body, so it's pretty light weight. P+J set up, with a master tone and volume for each pickup. The volume don't seem to do much past 3/4, so there's no fine tuning to be had. Output seems to be pretty low, too. So much for the pickups being 'powersound'? *grin* ... Gloss black finish, with little in the way of flaws.
Playability:
The action is quite low at the moment. The neck is pretty slim, which is supposed to lend itself to faster playing. It's also an advanage when you don't have the biggest hands in the world.
Sound Quality:
No effects, and just a 15w practice amp. Even with that, though, there seems to be a small amount of tonal versatility. It's not terribly noisy.
Durability:
I probably wouldn't use this live, if I was a professional player. I mean, it's targeted at the beginners market and is hence a beginners instrument. I've not had this bass for long, so no adjustments have needed to be made. Everything is pretty solid, no loose nobs or tuners or anything.

It has the appearance of a More expensive soundgear but not the expensive materials.
Playability:
I was able to easily learn on this bass and after a few months it gained alot of fret buzz from an oddly worn nut but that has been fixed and it out performes any bass in its price range that I have tried. nice thin neck for quick movement and rather versitile setup. needs to come with a better nut
Sound Quality:
I have played mine through a few P.A.s, A Hartke stack, a Peavy stack, and a nice little danelectro 15 watt. It sounds great through all after a lil toying with the tone knobs. I prefer a clear sound which isn't easy to obtain in CGCF tuning but it can do that and various other tones from funk to metal. As I mentioned I did have to modify the nut but that was done profesionally, It is noisy near computers and sometimes florecent lights and certain other electronics of simular nature may interfere. I prefer the live sound to the studio

I can obtain my preferred action easily, which is very low. The neck is very thin, and when I first started playing it was very helpful. Now that my hands are stronger I would probably be more comfortable with a larger neck. Compared to a Squier bass and every other bass I've played that costs $200, this bass is the best you can get. It plays, sounds, looks, and feels good to play. It is a good beginner bass and is very very light.
Sound Quality:
I use a 10 watt keyboard amp, and it sounds suprisingly good though it. I played a Squier P-Bass through it and it sounded horrible. It is well suited for any style of music and can have several diffent tones with the adjustment of volume and tone of the pickups. With only the p-bass pickup, there is no noise, with the p and jazz pickup, there is minimal noise, and with only the jazz pickup, there is some noise, but it only gets bad when you are near something like a computer. Overall, it is not very noisy.
Durability:
