I looked at a few spectors which i thought to be THEE basses on the market, wrong. I also played a few corts, peaveys, fenders, you see the availability is limited on the Eastern Coast of Canada. My favorite aspects of this bass are; playability, sound, appearance, and lastly; affordability. When shopping for a bass, simply because it was someone else's previously, do not be subjective and think it is garbage and that is why it was returned. Check them out, play them and turn it up loud in the music store; this is what they are there for.
Model Year: 1999
Price: $250.00 Canadian
Where Obtained: Musicstop
Features:
A little bit dinged up and uncared for by previous owner, but what a gem once I deatailed, sanded off, changed knobs, D-string tuner & that's it! Voila, what a bass! Plays excellent, fast, smooth, humbuckers are strong and meaty with glassy highs and boombastic lows. Maple neck, which is soft and slick with ebony fingerboard - a gem, not a mark on it! Ruby red, gotoh tuners (poor D failed.sniff, sniff) Passive elect's but awesome for my first 5 string. Thanks previous owner!
Playability:
Accurate playability, smooth, balanced, I need to adjust the bridge for the half step lower tuning, yet maintains perfect tuning no matter if i'm slappin' or ripping a fast fingerstyle line. My longer fingers adjusted beautifully to the broad neck width, being used to my p-bass ('98 Deluxe Special edition), i prefer the thinner, wider quickness of the BBN5II.
Sound Quality:
Trace Elliot AH300 SMC with a Trace elliot 4X10 Cab, Beautiful. Strong with depth for anger/aggresion and sweetness for more emotive sections. A very versatile, (affordable!) and user-friendly bass; two volumes & one tone. I love simplicity! I would like to remove the pots and line connections to clean it up because there is a slight buzz coming out of the electronics but who knows what the bastard did with it before i had her.
Durability:
This bass is not affected by climate! i swear to the man above, i leave this thing out on my stand in every room in the house and it doesn't change. My P-bass is very contrary, needs to be put to bed every night in her case...sweet paula. But 'Ruby' (my BBN5II) I incorporate her in every show, and the show this past weekend I used her the entire time, she felt that good!!

A great and cheap 5 strings. Just try it!
Model Year: 2002
Price: $295.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Taiwan
Features:
Natural finished. Two single coil pu's in jazz layout. Alder body. Maple/ RW neck/ fretboard. 24 frets (thanks Steph :) 2 volume controls, 1 tone.
Playability:
No flaws at all. The neck is thin for a 5 strings. Nice for slaping, and quite powerfull sound for a passive bass, including the B string.
Sound Quality:
Very good, warm and powerfull. I use a 50W dinausore amp (taiwanese). The amp is really bad, but the guitar still sounds good! Effect: zoom 506 II. Fit perfectly. Almost no moise at all. I am playing rock pop and heavy a bit, fit for both styles. I played it on stage, and the sound was really better than my Cort new action 4.
Durability:
Got it since 1 week now....I guess it will be quite durable

A GREAT bass for the price- possibly to be modded with EMG's in the future. Very comfy and well made 5 for not much money.
Model Year: 2001
Price: $369.00 GB (new)
Where Obtained: Sound Control, Sheffield
Features:
Natural finish 5 string Yamaha bass (mine's a lefty), 3 piece body, good quality (for the price) Yamaha hardware. Two single coil pu's in jazz layout. Alder body. Maple/ RW neck/ fretboard. 24 frets. Jazz controls (VVT). Jack on bottom of bass, so can prove problematic when sitting.
Playability:
Very thin fast neck even for a 5. Good low action with even response all the way up the board- no dead spots. Lightweight, with a nice thin cut body that sits nicely.
Sound Quality:
Used with an ABM 500 and BP1510 the bottom is incredible. No bass lost from the low B even though the pu's are passive. Beautiful growly jazz tone. Very little noise for singles.
Durability:
Don't know yet- only 1 day old!!!! Looks like it should be fine, so I'll tentatively give it a 4 for now.
