I now know i should have spent a little more money to get a high quality amp from a company that you know it won't just break a week after you bought it.
Model Year: 2001
Price: $730.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Mars
Features:
4 band EQ, very basic, not much of a sound variety
Sound Quality:
Way too much fuzz and distortion, bad sound quality against a comparable Ampeg, GK, or SWR
Ease of Use:
It popped a lot before it broke, no other amps pop when you check 5 times to make sure everything is plugged in. theres not much fiddling you can do to change your sound.
Durability:
It broke and they couldn't fix it, its a load of S@*%

Besides a cooling fan that runs all the time and the 8 EQ controls that need a bit of tweeking I love this amp. Once you tweek it and find your tone you can play till the sun comes up! I love it's fat warm tone and I like having the ability to tweek the mids if I need to. I recomend you take YOUR bass to your local Fender dealer and try this amp out. I think you'll be suprised.
Model Year: 2001
Price: $699.00 (new)
Where Obtained: The Bass Place Mesa, Az.
Features:
I'm really not to keen on solid state electronics but Fenders Bassman 400 has the tone and power I was looking for in a combo amp. 2 band EQ It's always on. And a 3 band, semi-parametric EQ (you can switch this off and on) It also has a room balance control that works great. A total of 8 EQ controls. Two Eminence 10 in. woofers and a 8 ohm foster horn.
Sound Quality:
I play blues and jazz and I like this amp better than my Super Redhead! It's a bit noisy (the cooling fan) but it has more bottom than the Redhead and also warmer. The Redhead is a great amp but it has to much mid. bite for me. I'm not a fan of solid state electronics but you you'll be surprised buy the solid fat tone you can get from the bassman 400.
Ease of Use:
This is the area that lacks. with 8 total EQ controls you do have to play around with it a bit to get used to it. It was much easier to get the the sound out of my P-bass and my G&L 5 than it was my Curbow Petite 5.
Durability:
I havn't had the amp long but it is built like a tank. It comes with castors and rolls nice. no tubes to replace. (but it has tube like tone) And I belive it will do great in small and med. size gigs.
