From a beginners standpoint, it's a very good instrument that i happen to like very much.

I am a beginner so it works for me. Not too good at knowing what it should really sound like. Good to me.
The few people that i let play it say it's not bad.

This was my first bass, and the guy at the store was a purist who thought everyone should start on a p-bass. I would buy it again, because I doubt I could find one with as good of a neck. This bass would be a lot better with a better pickup. The stock one sucks. Other than that, mine is pretty darn good. What is really best about thie P-bass is that it is straightforward and easy to play, and the action and neck are excellent for the price.

Made in Mexico, black, standard squier P-bass hardware, pickups, etc.
I have had a love/hate relationship with this bass. The steel stamp bridge rattles like mad on the e and a strings; however, that rattle does not sound through to the amp. I like the action low enough to where it only take a light touch to fret a note, and high enough to where I can really dig at the strings, and I can do that on this bass. I do my own set-up, and it is actually easy on this bass.
The neck is thinner than many P necks, actually somewhere right between a P and a J. As such, I can play very fast on it. It's just a great all around neck, the frets are even, it hasn't warped despite the abuse I've put it through, and it is comfortable and easy to play.
Compared with other basses, I would rate it right in the middle. There's no use ranking it with anything over 400 dollars, but it plays very well for its low cost.
I use this bass with a Unicord Stage 450, and I have a love/hate relationship with the sound, too. It has a very unique sound. It can sound pretty warm, and it works very well for the mostly classic rock style that I play, and it sounds pretty full, but not enveloping. If I turn the tone too high, it starts to sound snarly and ugly. It's the equivalent of a bad bridge pickup on a strat.
The warm sound is about average compared to other basses, and the bright (full tone) sound sucks. I am seriously considering replacing the pickup with a lindy fralin, because I like the way it plays, but the stock electronics really don't cut it.
I have abused it with drastic temp changes, dragging it around without a case, dropping it, hitting my bandmates in the head with the headstock, (always an accident) ill-advised mods (I was young) that I later reversed (with a little better skill and understanding. It has always been there for me, and I have no reason to think it would fail. It holds tune like a champ, and I only adjust it for its spring and fall setups. It is reliable.
Overall Rating:

If it were stolen, I think i'd pity the thief. If you average how I rated each individual item it doesn't make sense that i'd give it a 2 overall, but if you want to learn to play bass, I'd recomend a different bass.
Model Year: 2002
Price: $180.00 (new)

Well, it was recommended as a learner's bass...
It has 20 frets, 4 Strings, Rosewood fingerboard, 1 volume and 1 tone control. I've got the glossy black paint, and it doesn't fingerprint as bad as other black paints i've seen.
Playability:

I haven't obtained the action I'd like to have on this bass, and I don't think I will as it starts to buzz horribly at higher end frets. The neck has a seemingly large radius to it, making it harder to bar a fret.
I use it with a Fender 15B amp, I haven't worked much with sound quality, so I'll leave this one at medium.
Wow, this bass is durable. I hate to say it, but it and I have an abusive relationship, and its on the rougher end. But it holds well, the image still looks great, tone hasn't been affected. The input jack went bad me a while ago, i had to take it out and resolder it, but its good now. When i'm wearing a strap and have the bass pointing up too high(i'm not sure why, but it seems to happen that i do that), the top will become unnatached.
Also, you'll find yourself having to tune it frequently.
Overall Rating:

This is a very poor bass, but it does come at a great price, and it is a great choice for beginners, but i would reccommend a quick upgrade if you plan on becoming a serious bass player.

This bass is decent for finger-style playing, but it is the antislap. The pickups are right in the way of my slap posisitions.
Sound Quality:

The pickups dont sound very good for slapping either.
Durability:

It's held up pretty well except one thing: my pickguard snapped completely right where the cable jack is. The pickguard is terrible quality, and notice that models such as the Jazz bass have metal over the jack.

I am probably an oddity because being over 60 yrs old and learning a stringed instrument for the first time. The process is very interesting, a totally new 'language'(ex. tab, base lines) but what's important, am having fun. I bought this bass because of the package and did not know anything about all the equipment which could be required. Disappointed in the instructional video, but for the money, can't complain. This will suffice with my lack of expertise, although I'm sure a better instrument would 'make me sound better'. There is a 'buzz' that I get occasionally and the 'sound' seems to deteoriate as you move from E towards G string. Sometimes I think it would have been better to hace bought an acoustic without all the 'electrical' equipment and it would be easy to take on trips to play around on.
Plays okay. The Gstring seems 'tight' and is not easy to 'fret'.
Occasionally will get a 'buzz' along the E and A strings for no apparent reason.
I think the instrument will last sufficiently if properly cared for, after all it's not a shovel and needs to be treated accordingly.
Exellant 1st bass but you'll get bored of it very quickly

Brilliant as a begginer bass but as you play play more basses you will realise its not as good as it could be.
Sounds really good for punk, rock and ska, sound can be warm or 'slappy', it sounds good with a band.
Durability:

1) your strap will fall off regularily.
2) Frets/strings buzz after a short time
3) nasty buzz when plugged into a smallish amp(if you dont touch the strings)

kind of cheap.

Playability:

It has really low action, But the E string is dead
sounding with takes alot away from it. The neck is a
baseball bat, But i find it more comfortable than a
jazz neck. The rosewood strip down the center is
going to begin to come out soon probably.
Sound Quality:

It can go low down deep, or really high endy snap.
Doesn't sound very fat, Kind of thin though. I could
probably use a higher mass bridge.
I'm sure it could be played live, Kind of suckes
though, The tuners don't hold very long for more than
a day. Hardware is turning yellow from use.

The strongest point of this bass is the playability.. it is almost like the Fender original. Comfortable.. all I can say

The sound is muddy... crank the amp up... and crap.
The knobs don't do much.. you'll wonder what they are for..
I dont' know about the build quality... but this bass has some problems staying in tune.. the tuners suck..

I dont know where it was made, I think China. It just has passive electronics, with one volume, and one tone
This bass doesn't have the best playability in the world, but hey, that is what you want to start on, because it makes everything else seem like gold. For the money I believe that it does its job. It doesn't slap very well at all and it fret buzzes bad down around the 12th fret. I wouln't say that it contains any flaws, I would just say you get what you pay for.
The sound quality is much like the playability, you got what you paid for. It hums bad, and the pickup on the low end isn't all that great.
This thing is actually like a tank, hence its average playability, and sound. I've dropped mine several times, and it never harmed it a bit. The only bad part is where the chord plugs strait into the pick guard. if you aren't careful, you will do as i did and crack it.
Well, a great starter bass, learn the ropes, and cut the apron strings

A good bass for a beginner like me. I am currently looking for a new bass, but its shown me a good year...
All of the covers I play, I can play them, and as a beginner, that is whats important, now, if I could play uniquely, and in a way that would make people's jaws drop, that would be a different story, and hey, what can you expect for $350 CN
Sound Quality:

Well, sound quality is a little bland I'd say, but its still been good for me... it buzzes when its amped up for too long and nothing is touching the strings though, really annoying... but thats probably an amp thing.
It's doing ok, in spite of being bumped and dropped a number of times...
Overall Rating:

This bass is a good bass to cut your teeth on. Do not use it to preform with don't try slap or anything really aggressive you will regret it later. This bass could be used as an exercise bass. Keep the fingers callused up and limber while the other bass is in the shop.

I am an all around kind of player and the passive playing styles work well on this bass. It does not take well to harder styles like slap. It gets thorwn out of tune easy and if you play a song for to long using slap your strings will buss and the pick-ups yes the pickups will rattle in the body
Sound Quality:

I use a standard set up and it buzzes on just about every amp I use. It is not a good bass for any kind of performance. I have had better sound out of a busted Ibanez. If played to long or to hard it will buzz like nobody's business
Durability:

This bass is a good stable construction aside from poor mounting on the string locks the pick up mountings etc. Overall it has the feel of quality as long as you don't play it. You know that guitar sence in "This is Spinal Tap" the don't touch it one, Yeah this is it.
Overall this is a pretty good bass. decent sound. its not to expensive so its a good buy. its great for begginers or small shows, and practicing it pretty good with this. it will work for you for a nice length of time.

It was made in indonesia, or at least crafted there. there is 20 frets and 4 strings. it has a volume and tone control. it has 2 pickups. its a precision style.
Its basically good at just finger picking or with a pic. its not to good at slap but it can work out. its play is more for the beginner type or for someone that wants a precision bass feel. you can play fast but you might hear that dreaded clanky metal sound. i cant actually see any flaws except for the crap slap part.
I use a hartke amp with this and it can give a good lowish sounds or just regular playing. if you make the sound more bassy and less treble some of the frets have a buzzing sounds or a crappy vibration sound. maybe just the amp though, i hope so at least. its basically a good practice bass and it will do the job for a gig.
Well this is a pretty nice pieced bass. it has a bar in the back to help keep the neck togther which gives it a nice solid feel. the overall texture it very smooth and it feels good. its medium weight i suppose and would probably handle a few crashes here and there.
It is a good bass for a good price and i would recomend it for a beginer or someone with limited sprending

Unlike the Indonesian made Squier P-Basses
sold in the USA, the Chinese made ones sold
here in Australia feature a much nicer neck in
the way that it only buzzes if you don't put
enough preassure on it. Durability is pretty
good, the neck does need work every now and
then. For the price you pay it is a fantastic
begginer bass, because it has a full sized
neck and perfect standard weight preparing
for more up market basses. The passive split
coil pickups come along side a single volume
and tone controll over a sun burst finish on a
precision styled body
The neck on this bass is pretty ok, it does
need work every few months but it's full size is
perfect for a beginner. It does buzz if you go to
high or don't press properly.
The spit coil Precision pickup does leave a bit
to be desired but if you play into some
headphones or a big speaker it sounds great.
P-Bass has a much fatter sound and is more
the industry standard, it all comes down to
what you prefer, if it's a light jumpy sound or a
more punky sound. This suits a more punky
rythmic sound.
If you are ready for a gig you can't use a squier
or anything arounnd it's price, if you like
fenders, fork out a bit more and get a standard
p-bass, it's worth it. Apart from that the
durability is perfect except for the fact that
when you buy it you MUST get the shop to fix it
up, because the neck will be mishaped, but
this is normal and is easily fixed. Compared to
yamahas around the same price it has less of
a bend than them

This is an intro bass and as I steadily improve my playing there are many aspects of it I don't like. I don't like the way it sounds, the way it sits on my shoulders, I don't like the pickups. It buzzes and hums when it shouldn't and Overall I really wish I had a better bass. HOWEVER it is just about right for me as a beginner. I wouldn't want to try and learn on a $2500 bass when I have no clue what I am really doing. This bass is really good for me to screw around and learn what I do or do not like. I wouldn't buy this bass again if it were stolen because I feel I am ready to buy a much better bass. For the price, the quality is pretty good. I would just recommend getting it setup and adding pickups as needed.

My bass is Fender's intro line of basses for beginners. It has 22 frets, volume and tone control, passive electronics. It has a sunburst finish. It is a pretty basic stripped down bass. Good to get started on I guess.
I haven't been playing very long but I tend to prefer low action. I have the bass set with fairly low action right now but it buzzes on several different frets. It seems to be balanced alright though it seems to sit a little bottom heavy for me.
Sound Quality:

It isn't capable of producing a very wide range of sound and it tends to be a little weak on the low-mid to low notes. The pickups hum outrageously and it doesn't sound very warm overall. I am not overly fond of the sound. The sound quality did improve when I changed strings and put on some Dean Marleys. I will probably get some EMG pickups put in it to improve the pickup sound.
This bass has been with me for a while (I just never bothered to learn how to play it) and it has held up suprisingly well. I don't play it very hard but it stays in tune decently. It hasn't been put through a whole lot so I don't know how it would perform under "giggin" conditions.
