Maple Neck, very solid, 4 string. Jazz-bass so neck is graduated to be thinner at end (1st fret) than regular basses, therefore much easier to play and grip for Barre chords. Bass and Treble volume nobs, 1 tone nob. 2 pickups. black opaque finish with white pick guard. Tons of fun to play, sounds great with all my rock lines and esp. slap lines. Tried out 8 other basses in 300-700 dollar range until i found this one, best bang for the buck easily. Great make.

It would be nice if Fender would build them again. Well worth the price and the look is pretty cool.

Awesome sound with one volume for each pickup and treble. 3 knobs in all.
Great bass has held up through the years.
This was my first bass after I switched from guitar to bass. I wouldn't buy this bass again because I'm saving up for a good five string but it's a pretty nice bass. This bass just isn't really for the kind of music I play.
Price: $220.00

It was made in Mexico. 20 frets, 4 strings. It has dotted frets. 2 volume knobs and a tone knob. It has two pickups. A jazz body style.
This bass does well when I play it in my school jazz band and when I'm playing rock music. The neck kinda bugs me because you can't get very much high action. It's a pretty good bass, pretty average.
I use a crate amp with it. I play jazz music in my school jazz band and it goes good with that. It plays pretty good when I play rock music too. It has a kind of warm sound to it. I'd say it's bass mostly for the beginner or intermediate bass player. I wouldn't use it for the stage or studio.
It is pretty reliable, haven't had any problems yet. When it gets colder I think the neck actually adjusts a little bit so I can play better way higher on the strings but then it goes back to the way it was before.
This has got to be one of the best starter basses around. I don't know if I got lucky or if these basses are just better than people think, but I've had people compliment me on my nice Fender Standard J-bass. They don't believe it's a Squier!

Crafted in Indonesia, standard j-bass setup. 3 color sunburst.
This bass plays surprisingly well. I can't tell a difference between it and anything that doesn't cost more than twice as much. I had to fix a little buzz in the A string, but that was easy.
This is a great starter bass. I'm just now looking to upgrade since my band is getting bigger gigs (1000 ppl). This bass is very multi-purpose, great if you just haven't decided what style you want to play.
Everything has been great, except a minor issue in the wiring, that the warranty took care of.
Overall-a bloody good bass but it has a lacking behind it that I wish I could fill you in on, but barely know myself.

My Jazz has two Fender pickups fitted, with Warwick (yes, I'm sorry, Warwick) stings.
It came in a lovely Candy Apple Red finish, which sparkles in the light. It has passive electronics as far as I know, and 20 frets although I could really use the extra four for the octave.
I have no idea what wood was used.
I can just about get this bass set up, the neck is lovely and it plays excellently, but there is a problem I can't fix with the action-I wish to get it low enough to facilitate easier tapping but when I do I get all the fret buzz that comes with it.
The neck had a few weird markings, but nohing that would hinder my playing.
A great sound, a punchy middley sort of sound for tapping with. I use a Trace Elliot GP11 150 watt Mk IV bass preamplifier with it and it's great.
However some days you could play the bass and it would feel great but other days it could feel like trying to play a big piece of s--- (excuse my language) because of string tension and such.
It's a Fender! As solid as they come! However the tuning can be lost sometimes and the wood gets confused with the changes of climate.
