Spector NS-2000Q4

Electric Fretted 4-String Bass

Made by Spector

Description Four Strings, 34" Scale, Bolt On Neck, Maple/Basswood body and a very nice finish. The rather nifty black hardware on this beauty makes changing strings very quick. Plus 2 very nice EMG Humbucker pickups.

Great playing bass, you can get almost any tone you want. The only flaw I can see is the imput jack, I have already had to have it replaced.
Sound Quality:
I use a Fender BXR 200 no effects, This Bass has a great sound for whatever you play.

Overall, this bass is fantastic! After 3 years I cannot let it go. It's the only thing I'd run back in the house to get during a fire besides my dog!
Price: $365.00 (new)

I love this bass. There isn't another bass out there that has impressed me as much as the Spector bass as well as the professionalism from the company itself. I love EMG's, and the sleekness and design is soo comfortable. Being female it is hard to find comfortable in basses especially when it comes to weight. It's set just right for playability. I don't even know where to begin to boast about this thing!
Playability:
The only trouble I had was the jack. But no problem because I called Spector up on the phone and they had sent me 2 additional UPGRADED jacks to me to make sure the problem was situated. Gave me the information of the store to bring it to and I brought it in, they took care of the bill. They even gave me a free neck adjustment! This company is a 10 from 1-5 for good businessman. I can't say enough about this company and their product. I'm extremely satisfied!
Sound Quality:
I use Yorkville speakers with Eden heads mainly and Line 6 effects board. Monster cables are the only way to go. I kept the original equipment the bass came with. Sounds awesome! I wouldn't change a thing about it! Sounds good in any style in any situation.
Durability:
Usually I have a lot of problems with fret buzz on most other instruments. This is one bass I didn't have to worry about. After shipment I didn't like the way the adjustments were made and Spector paid for my first adjustment on it. I've had it for 3 years and have only done 1 neck adjustment a year instead of BI or TRI-MONTHLY. It's sweet. Again, I play about ever style on it from plucking to slapping and popping. I make sure the room temperature is perfect and kept that way, and I have a special unit inside the case for moisture and everything else. So I do baby it. It is durable compared to other basses.

I was looking for an affordable versatile bass, and found that this one was a good choice. Both my favotite and worst aspect about this bass is all of it's sound options. I have found that it can be a bit too much, that's why I am now looking for something classic and simple (a P-bass).
Model Year: 2001
Price: $400.00
Features:
This is a Korean made bass, a see-trough black basswood body with flame maple top. A maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. It has two active EMG-HZ humbucking pickups, which lets you boost or cut the treble and bass with 12dB.
Playability:
The action on this bass can be set very low without any fretbuzz. The neck itself is very smooth (oil finish I believe) which let your hand fly up and down the neck.
Sound Quality:
With it's dual pickups and active tone controls, this bass is VERY versatile. This bass can be upgraded to 18V circuitry by adding another battery, but I don't know how it can be any sweeter than this!
Durability:
When the weather changes from very hot to rain (typical swedish summer) you have to tune it now and then. When the weather is stable, it doesn't need tuning for several hours of playing.

I looked at several other basses within a certain price range. The unique finish and the feeling of the neck won me over after trying Fender basses.

Features:
Korean made, bolt on maple neck. 4 string with EMG Active pickups. 2 volume, 2 tone controls. Holoflash highgloss finish. The unique holoflash really makes this bass stand out. The active electronics are a bonus, even though it is a bolt on neck.
Playability:
This bass is easy to play. I am a woman and have no problem reaching around the neck. I had to adjust the action after purchasing it, but other than that it plays great.
Sound Quality:
No matter the amp, this bass has a great sound. Playing mostly rock and metal with it, can get any tone I need.
Durability:
This bass is a little touchy with climate changes, I have to retune it often. Immediatly after purchase I changed the strap buttons to locking ones. Didn't want to take any chances. I've only had to do the one truss-rod adjustment directly after purchase. The action was a little high for my style.

I went from a Fender Jazz to this bass - and I'm glad that I did. The Spector has a much more greater tonal range than the Fender. I would buy this bass again if anything happened to it.
Price: $500.00 (new)
Where Obtained: samash.com
Features:
Made in Korea, which doesn't mean it's a hunk of junk. Has a basswood body with quilt maple veneer on top. Very nice. 3-piece maple neck with a thick rosewood board. Has 24 frets, they're all nicely set with smooth edges. Two volume, treble and bass controls. The treble seems to be a little much...I never turn it up past halfway. Smooth sounding double EMG-Hz active humbuckers. Mine has the slick transparent black finish, which sometimes looks purple and other times a nice deep black or grey. The bridge is really neat and compact and easy to adjust. Has 4 Grover tuners I believe, nice smooth turning action.
Playability:
This bass definitely plays well. The action is a good medium with very little or no fret buzz. I lowered the strings a little bit just to my liking. Very adjustable. The neck has a very Fender-like feel. It's not too thick or thin and the back is smooth and fast.
Sound Quality:
I use a Crate BX-100, and this bass has a variety of sounds that you can obtain. I play mostly punk, since I'm in a punk band. I also enjoy playing slow rock ballads at home in my spare time, and this bass will work for any style. Every now and then I feel the need to let out a little slap and this bass doesn't let me down at all. You can get a tight growl or a warm flowing tone depending on the pickup blend and treble levels. The humbucking pickups do a great job at noise reduction. There is absouletly NO noise at all, through my amp at least.
Durability:
This bass seems very reliable. I've had it for only 3 weeks, but I can just feel it. Has a nice solid build to it. The only thing I would take to the stage is a spare 9 volt battery and a small phillips head screwdriver (to take off the rear control cover). I adjusted the truss rod the day I got it because the 3rd fret on the A string had a small amount of buzz. One quick turn of the truss rod and I was good to go.

This is a brilliant bass and is worth getting if you're looking for a decent active bass within this price range. I find this brilliant for the sort of music I play (punk to metal) and I would very happily recommend this bass to anybody. My next bass I hope will be another Spector.
Price: $400.00 Pounds Sterling (new)
Where Obtained: Sticks and Strings - Newbury
Features:
From the site, it says that the bass has a Maple/Basswood body and is made in Korea. 24 frets are on the obscenely long neck and it has four lovely knobs, one for treble, one for bass, and two to control the overall volume and levels. It has two extremely nice EMG Humbucker Pickups. The finish is one that is extremely goregeous, I had a black/purple one and there's this really nice tiger stripe like finish on it. The bridge is very nifty, unlike most bridges, the string can be removed and replaced in one movement, not needing to 'thread' it through a small hole, and once in place it stays in tune very nicely.
Playability:
When I bought the bass the action was a bit low and the bridge needed raising quite a bit, (the bridge is actually quite weird, you can't use a screwdriver on it. Take a look tos ee what sort of tool you need, I'm not exactly sure on it's name.) It is very easy to reach all the frets on this baby, even up to 24. I found this bass much easier to slap than many of the other basses I played, but however because of the small body and HUGE neck, it does have a bit less sustain than other basses, but this is made up for in brilliant tone quality, slappability and it's monstorously long fretboard.
Sound Quality:
I feed this baby through a 120 watt Laney hardcore Max and I can get a very wide range of sounds from it. Slapping, It sounds very much like Take the Power back by RATM. But if you play with the amp for a bit, you should be able to get your dream sound. I think it creates a better sound than my old Westone Thunder A1. Give it a playtest to see if it'll be your favourite, like mine.
Durability:
The bass seems to be able to take a few decent knocks, however when I dropped it, the inotation that I spent 40 minutes getting perfect went out. So be careful if it's going to be swung around a bit.
