This bass is probably the best sounding bass i have ever owned.the neck is reinforced w/graphite rods in the neck, and while i have had to set up my jap & mex p basses several times,i have only set this usa jazz5 up once!it has a pao ferro fingerboard which is pretty well discolored from sweat.string thru body construction allows me to really FEEL every note right in the gut.it has gotoh tuners(sealed)and stays in tune perfectly...the low b string plays beautifully, and the color is what first caught my eye.its some kind of red flipflop translucent, when looked at straight away is lighter around the edge, but when you tilt the bass,it changes to a dark red around the edge.i often wonder if this is a common color,as i've not seen another one like it.
I have 2 fender p basses(4 string)that i really do love and will never get rid of,a 86-87 cream w/maple neck,(jap)and a 2000 mex deluxe(red w/gold annodized pickguard and rosewood fretboard)but the usa jazz5 is my main bass.i have small hands but the neck is very comfortable and easy to play all nite long, tapping and slapping are NO PROBLEM on this 5 stringer.its a very versatile bass that i take to all my gigs,i play in 2 bands right now,a blues band playing everything from hendrix and srv to muddy waters and bb king and also my modern rock cover band playing outkast to billy joel to evanessence.i also used it primarily in a funk/r&b orig. band i was playing with last year...its got the sweetest tone i've ever heard when you dig in to the higher strings.the one flaw(if you could call it that)is that there seems to be some kind of wood filler on the edge of the frets/fingerboard joint, but it doesnt affect its playability one bit.
This bass sounds GREAT through both my amps,an ampeg ba115 100w combo, and my genz benz gbe600,gb210t-cc,and gb410tXB2 stack.i get complemented at every gig,and my bandmates tell me i have the best bass tone of any bass player they have played with. however, because of the single coil pickups,it doesn't seem to respond as well to my boss fx pedals as my split coil p basses, but i consider that such a small price to pay for the killer tone.it's also pretty heavy,so xpect to get good and sweaty if you jump around as much as i do.also dont stand right in front facing a loud amp because you will get some buzz, and i have to keep both pickups on full to keep from getting noise.cant really seem to use the pickups independently without getting noise, either.
I beat the s--- out of this thing, slapping the headstock, divebombing the neck, and at the end of one show i slammed the bass on the stage and it sounded a perfect low b for the last note of "in the end" by lincoln park!!!!you just cant ask for more from a $650 used usa jazz5,the best bass i've ever owned!!!
This machine will be with me for the rest of my career. Definetly worth buying

Two Volumes one tone control, Nice Bridge, lovely neck, well balanced, maybe a little heavy round the neck, come the end of the gig. But hey no pain, no gain!
Very player friendly, after being set up properly, action good. Bottom B can feel a bit slack. Especially with my current favorite strings.
Very Good tonal variation, definetly sounds like a Fender. That's why I bought it!
Built like a Sherman tank. I haven't dropped it yet, I hope I never do, but I pity my toes if it ever happens!
I like it's playability and style i just would like more diversity in it's sound range and style of body. i would like to get a different bass but haven't found anything that plays like i want so i will have to deal with it. it is a good bass for someone that wants to get a little more soloing area and learn a little more. but over all it's conformed body style and small range still gets me but i would say by it to anyone experienced enough

American,maple,33 fret, d'addario strings,2-volume, 2-tones, 2-humbucking 5 string jazz pick-ups,passive, factory pick-ups, whine red, jazz body,string through body, with locking tuners.(on it's 2nd neck)
I can a good jazz bass sound and then take it to a low country style bass tone pretty good but not to much variance(would like to get more slap jazz and duller tone)the neck is newer then the rest of the guitar because the first one snapped(yikes!) but the neck is nice it is just a little off on the g-string and so some times i pull the string off the neck by accident, it plays acceptually well for what it is but would like to get more from such a big brand(given that anything i have played that sounds better was a lot more expensive) it has a couple of knicks but out of that it is set up great!
I use an old crate that out powers most kustoms i have play against,i play an assortment of jazz to punk to blues(anything with feeling and i mean real feeling not this country/pop band crap)i couldn't see a fender 5 string jazz in anything else that didn't have the bounce of jazz or heavieness of punkish music. the sound seems to be kinda brite but able to back-up with lotsa power(especially in the lower 2 strings) the sound is great but i wish i could getr the extreme jazz sound like in a couple of rick's i have played and then be able to take to dullness like the kalamazoo i started with. new pick-ups and an additional tone nob. well it is hard to adjust the volume just right cause it get extremely touchy about in the 8 region but has lotsa room under that. i would say that in studio u could get more of a sound to it but on stage it go great with dunlop pick and crate pumpin out some great waves
Well so far the neck has cracked, the strap peg fell out, and it got finnish knicks on it, so i would say that it could be a little stronger. i have it set up about every two months but that is just because i like it to sound nice and want to keep it good. well the strap lock fell out(literaly) but every thing else seems to be holding no problem. it has been able to with stand the iowa cold and florida heat pretty well and not go wacky out of tune when rushed into cold air.
I would definitely buy this bass again if it were stolen,
but I wouldn't spend the extra $40 for the sunburst.

Made in Mexico
Body is poplar and neck is maple with rosewood
fingerboard
20 frets 5 string
2 pickups both Jazz
3 knobs, two volume and one tone
Sunburst finish
"off-set" jazz body
screw-on neck
This is an incredible bass for any style of playing.
This is my second bass and I love everything about
it! Some disadvantages are that it is a little noisy, but
that can easily taken care of by turning down the
tone. Also, if your are an avid slapper, the low B
string can start to ring if you're not careful. For a
former 4 string player, this bass is might be a little
big. The frets are huge, the neck is kinda huge, and
the body is huge. I have let a few shorter people try it
and they like it, but it does look kinda funny if you're
REALLY short!
Like any other Fender product, this bass was made
to last. My friend dropped it right on the tuners and it
stayed in tune! Also, it has stayed in the trunk of a
car while it was close to zero degrees Fareheight
and hardly needed to be tuned!

This is a black American-made Deluxe Jazz V. I love it! Way better than the cheap knock-off I used to play.
Excellent playability. No fret buzz.
