Description When Michael came out with "Thonk", he was labeled "A deeply disturbed young man". This album is beyond Thonk and takes bass playing to a whole new realm of consciousness.

I agree with Brent, this is probably my favorite cd by a solo bassist. I love his solos "The Fire Sermon" and "No Wontons For Elvis."

This album is Michael at his best. He moves from spiritual melodies to funky grooves. Michael is so far beyond even advanced bass player that I'd be surprised if one can think of a way to improve this album.

My favorite track is "Adult Content/Brief Nudity". This is an excellent mix of grooves. Proof that you don't need a lot of notes to get your point across.

Michael's got Jaco's speed and Graham's funk. Michael's taken some of the best qualities of his influences and created an amazing style of playing. Most of his style comes from overcoming obsticles. For instance, Michael's "raking" technique started as an effort to overcome the limitation placed on "snapping" by his signature Zon "Hyperbass".

If you play bass, you should have at least one Michael Manring album in your collection. If you only have one Manring album, make this the one.
