Didn't really look at any other basses apart from Musicman Stingray but for me the Fender won hands down
Model Year: 2005
Where Obtained: www.reidys.co.uk
Features:
This American made beauty has maple neck with rosewood fingerboard with a bi flex truss rod ( hpefully I wont be messing around with it to much). 22 bell rolled fret's as you would expect from Fender no sharp edges all perfectly smooth. 18v active electronics, presicion pick up at the neck and jj at the bridge. Only thing I've changed are the strings. All in all I love this bass and would replace if stolen, broken or roasted.
Playability:
Didn't need to touch the action perfectly good set up straight from the box.
Sound Quality:
I play through a Marshall 25 watt practice amp and an Ashdown C210 300watt for gig's. The sound from both is fantastic very full and warm. Well suited to stadium rock.
Durability:
Only had this bass a year and so far so good, everything is as good as the day I bought it.

I always wanted a PBass and this one fit what I needed to do with it. The only thing I dont like about this bass is that I traded a GL2500 for it, which I would kill to have back, because now i have the money to buy stuff that I didnt back when I got this one. To make it better, maybe lighten the head a little to prevent the stage-dip and thats about it. Love it.
Model Year: 1997
Price: $1000.00
Where Obtained: New Orleans Music Exchange
Features:
American Made, Ash body with Maple neck, rosewood fretboard. Standard 22 frets (I think, Ill have to count again later), Volume, tone controls for each active pickup (1 Split Coil P and a Humbucker), bass/treble concentric boost/cut. Active EQ Slpit P/Humbucker pickups, Cherry Red with White shell pickguard. Two-way bridge (set or string thru) and standard tuners for a Fender.
Playability:
I like middle action to mid-low, and i can get that on this bass pretty easily. The neck on a precision is a little wide for me, but i've gotten used to it over the last few years. I usually play on Jazz necks. It sits pretty confortably against me when standing, although the headstock does tend to dive a little at times. But it helps the overall appearance and im sure gives it some sense of sustainability, so it doesn't bother me. It sounds just as good as my other basses, but its the favorite of my soundman. He loves the way it sits down in the mix. The only true FLAW this bass has is the cable input. I HATE THE INPUT. I hate all bottom-side jacks because they tend to get loose on me, and Im not sure why. I wish all basses had LOCKING 1/4" inputs.
Sound Quality:
I use this mainly with a GK1001RB210 combo and an Ampeg b15. I also run direct through a BassPOD and Shure PSm200s with E5s, through which this bass sounds AWESOME. Im in a variety cover band and this thing can do it all. From funk to country to Rap to Blues, its a jack of all trades. its up there with all the other basses I own. I love this one particularly because im a big motown fan and, lets face it, the P-bass was motown. it tends to overpower the mix sometimes if im soloing and push the control a little too far, but otherwise its wonderful. Its pretty well suited to the stage and studio, because you can dial it up or down to suit your needs. Very versatile. If I were to mod it in any way ir rip out the 1/4" jack and install a locking quarter.
Durability:
My bandmates seem to bump into it every time its on a stand , so its hit the ground several dozen times, and its still perfect. Ive bumped it into a byunch of things in my car in its gig bag (Has a case, but I prefer to carry the bags on my back) never goes out of tune.

I have four basses including this one. The only bass I play as much as this one is my vintage Ric.

Plays wonderfully.

This bass has the most versatile sound I've ever heard.
Durability:
It holds up real well. I have yet to adjust it in anyway since the first time.

A solid purchase for anyone. If you had to buy one bass and wanted it to do everything and be completely reliable this is the bass.
Model Year: 1999
Price: $965.00 (new)
Where Obtained: M.A.E
Features:
I specifically purchased this bass for its great Maple neck. The neck is rock solid and I keep a medium to high action for funk style slapping and popping. The passive electronics and pick up configuration are well suited for this style. The Deluxw tuning machines a flawless and precise. The Satin/Silver Finish is smooth with no flaws.
Playability:
Very easy to play, although the back of the neck has some sticky spots from the finish. I use the this bass for more funk related material, which usually has me jumping around, so I don't notice the neck that much from sliding my thumb up and down the back.
Sound Quality:
The great and unbeatable Fender sound. If I had to have one choice of bass under a $1000.00 dollars this would be it. It can do it all, and do it well.
Durability:
This is a very tough bass. It is solid and made with precision. It is a bit on the heavy side, but you know that it's weight do to the excellent durability.

I looked at several 5 string bassis. This one stood out. Although I couldn't affort it at the time, it was the natural color, pearl fret-markers, and the active pickup.
Model Year: 2000
Price: $899.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Garrett Park Guitars
Features:
2000 US Made Fender Precision-Deluxe bass. 5 string with an active pickup. It is a natural finish with pearl fret-markers. It has 2-passive and 1-active pickup. It has Treble, Mid, and Bass controls and the ability to switch from one set of pickups to the other (or mix) with a turn of a knob. All I can say - is - Good God!!
Playability:
I am in heaven when playing this bass. Its action and tonal quality can't be matched. This is a bad a-- bass.
Sound Quality:
I use this bass with a Peavey TNT 130 amp. I use a NADY wireless system for some shows and a Fender cord with others. It seems to be holding up quite well. I am still getting used to playing with 5 strings, but it is coming along nicely.
Durability:
Everything is good so far. I have used it for many a show. Check out http://www.dickwasafish.com for mp3s.

I would definitely replace this bass if it were stolen (I would never lose it!). The tone options make this bass leaps and bounds better than a standard p-bass. The look and feel of this bass gave me a vibe that I couldn't resist. Well worth the money.
Model Year: 2000
Price: $1000.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Guitar Center
Features:
Made in Carona, California. This base has the common P-Bass split single coil pick-up in the neck position and an added double humbucker in the neck. Also has active electronics, including volume, bass/treb, pickup control, and midrange boost/cut. Ash wood, p-bass style, body, with transparent teal finish, maple neck and head stock, and rosewood fingerboard. Bridge style is string-thru body.
Playability:
Came factory set up with perfect low action. No adjustments were necessary. The tall frets give great control. Plays much easier than a Fender Jazz base. The added Humbucker in the bridge position gives many tone options. Wonderful sounding instrument!
Sound Quality:
This bass sounds great with classic rock, blues, and jazz. It can get low and growl and then with a little twist of the active eq it can pop and sparkle. The pickups are practically noiseless and would be practical in the studio as well as on stage.
Durability:
Have not had it long enough to give an accurate rating here. It appears to be well-made but only time can truely tell.

I looked at yamahaha, Ibanez, Peavey, And Fender. I chose this one because the make, model and anniversary edition appealed to me. I not only think in terms of playing, but also future value. This time I got the best of both worlds.

yes I would buy this bass again. Th einly way it could be better is if it was neck through the body and maybe a 5 string.

my favorite thing about the bass is the wide range of tonal response. My previous bass was kind of dead sounding. Like a 6x4 with strings
Model Year: 1996
Price: $1100.00
Where Obtained: Derek Sasaki
Features:
The Fender P-Bass was made in the USA. The body is Alder with a cream opaque finish. The neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard. It has 22 medium frets and 4 strings.

There are 4 control Knobs.
  1. master volume
  2. dynamic select
  3. treble boost/cut, bass boost/cut(this is a stacked knob with treble on top bass on bottom)
  4. mid boost/cut

It has 2 pickups and they are both active. One is a single coil and the other is a humbucker.

The bridge style is string through body. This gives it a lot more sustain. I also use a clamp on the headstock for added security , although I really don't need it with active electronics.

The keys are vintage and the nut is cyclovac.
Playability:
My preferred action is low/medium and yes it has been obtained. The neck is very playable and fluid. By comparison it is a lot smoother than my old Washburn which had a neck through body design.

There are no flaws except for one tiny, tiny, nick in the back of the headstock.(watch out for mike stands)
Sound Quality:
Right now I'm running it through a Peavey 50W combo. I use a distortion, and preamp pedal for edge and boost.(I don't really need the boost, but old habits are hard to break).

I use it in church music and for my new project with my buddy.(a funkified/alternative/rythym and blues/Jam band)

The sound is strong warm and consistent. NO MODS I've yet to play it in the studio, but it has, las Ganas, at inside and outside venues.( If your not Mexixan ganas loosely translated is; cojones, huevos, B*lls)
Durability:
It is 2nu2tell. (at least 4 me.) I'll update the review in a year and let you know.
