I looked at a Fender Precision bass and was drawn to the Peavey due to active pickup, small neck (i have small fingers), and really liked the overall clean and stylish look that says "modesty". I almost sold it once to get a 5 string but have now decided that I will never sell it but just add another 5 string bass later. I am really comfortable with it and hate to give it up. Great bass for the price I think.
Model Year: 1999
Price: $300.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Kincaids Music
Playability:
It is pretty easy to play but I am not fond of the arch on the back of the neck which seems to promote fatigue at least on my hands. The only flaw seems to be the output jack that doesn't seem to lock onto the 1/4" jacks very well and makes for easily lost connections when moving around much.
Sound Quality:
I have been told by a few people that it has a fat and deep tone which could be a result of the active pickup. I use a Zoom 708 processor with it because l really like the tube preset and amp cabinet effects. The amp I use is Peavey Basic 112. I can play most styles on it but it is really hard to get the percussive plucking sounds out of it that makes for great funk but it excellent for rock or jazz.
Durability:
It really holds up well to most conditions. I have stored in a car in sub freezing conditions only to take into lessons later that day with only minor adjustments to the tuning needed. Great bass to start on.
