If your starting out and looknig for a rig, then this will fit the bill- I love it to bits it will serve you well.
Model Year: 2004
Price: $850.00 AUD (new)
Where Obtained: Billy Hyde Music
Features:
This is my "first" bass guitar... After trying many many low to mid range guitars in the store I desided on this. I wish I could have afforeded that Euro Series neck through but hey, I aint that rich! The spectores had a great feel to them. 4 String bass with EMG HZ-SSD passive pick-ups, two Volume and Tone controls and 24fret neck. Good gear for a low end guitar.
Playability:
I love the feel of this guitar, there is just something about the shape that I love. it has a thinish body compaired to the likes of a fender, and a big 24 fret finger board... I love this guitar so much I am actually ussing a similar shape of it for my new hand made bass project :-)
Sound Quality:
Sounds good, takes abit of playing around with the tone and volume to get it were you like it... Once you do though you only need to change the strings every so often :-)
Durability:
No troubles here :-)

I bought this bass as a cheap backup to my Main bass. And I am well impressed and would think twice about using it on stage.
Model Year: 2003
Price: $239.00 uk Sterling (new)
Where Obtained: soundcontrol.co.uk
Features:
This bass was made in China, to a very high standard for a bass in this price range. The body is Alder and The neck is Maple with a rosewood finger board. The finish is described as HoloFlash and it is fantastic, all sorts of colours. Two EMG/SSD soapbars, passive with Tone and Volume for each Pup. The best combination I found was both volumes on full, bridge tone off and neck tone on full.
Playability:
Playability is superb, straight from the shop. Low action fast neck, thanks to the natural finish on the neck. The only thing I would like as an extra on this bass would be an active pre amp.
Sound Quality:
I use this bass with my Gallien Krueger 700RB 115 and a Boss GT6B, and the sounds are, well fantastic. But that might be down to the high quality of my amp and effects. I play a mix of Rock/Blues and Funk and I would say this bass is best suited to rock.
Durability:
Looks solid, I havent had it long so we will see.

This was my first bass I guess I got it in Oct 2001. Sold it to my guitar player when I got my Reverend Rumblefish. Had to borrow it for practice a few months ago and decided to update this review since i have a bit more experience. Its finished pretty well, has super low action(way lower than my revend can get), and sounds great direct(thats what my friend uses it for) It plays great and besides the crappy tuners ($40 upgrade?) its solid. I'd recommend it for a great first bass or a solid beater bass.
Model Year: 2001
Price: $360.00 (new)
Where Obtained: musicians friend
Features:
Passive EMG pickups, basic four string with really easy low action. Cheap tuners is probably the weakest part of this bass.
Playability:
Plays really easy and came with a super low action.
Sound Quality:
You can get a lot of different sounds from this bass but the neck pickup can be a bit noisy. I'd say well suited for rock. Actually sounds really good direct.
Durability:
Rock solid construction for the price. Teh only thing taht suck like I said is the tuning keys. Sold it to my guitar player and hes not nearly as nice to it as I was.

Overall an excellent bass, I can't put it down.
Features:
Made in China. It has two passive pickups each with a volume and tone control. The strings were absolutely horrible.
Playability:
Very nice doesn't want to leave my hands.
Sound Quality:
I get a wide range of sound out of it, very nice.
Durability:
It has great durability. Very solid, it's been bumped around a bit and holds up nicely.

I looked at about every bass on the market under 1000 Spectors ar the best for the money i would buy it again if it was stolen i love the warm tone about it but that A string is sorta annoying when i'm poppin BUY this bass! you cant ever go wrong for the money
Model Year: 2001
Price: $350.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Humbuckers (a music store)
Features:
It was made in the U.S. it has 24 frets (I get two octaves on this baby) Has a volume control for each of the two pickups and 2 tone controls for the picups. has a red finish, but you can still see the grain of the wood
Playability:
The a string buzzes a little but everything else is awsome
Sound Quality:
I use a swr working man 15 and it kicks butt you can play any style and get practically any tone when played through
Durability:
I have to tune it about every 2 weeks and i'v accidently hit the neck and tuners and few times- not a scratch everything looks like new

I looked at a few other basses, a Music man and a Warwick and chose the Spector because I only wanted a cheap practise amp and it was the cheapest. I was surprised just how good it was after I changed the cacky Spector strings.
Features:
It's pretty standard in the features department, two passive pickups, each with a volume and tone control. Mine came in a pretty snazzy dark blue varnish finish with the wood grain showing through, it's of a typical high quality spector standard in respect to it's manafacture. I hate the spector strings though, they really are a big steaming pile of crap, I changed mine straight away.
Playability:
It's a good quality solid neck, not to wide, not to thick. It's quite a compact little bass and gives me the abilty to move around a lot on stage that I need for my punk band.
Sound Quality:
To start with I thought it sounded slightly naff but then I got rid of the spector strings and realised it sounded like a dream! For th price tag you're getting a lot of quality, it's full, warm and funky, completly depending on how you alter your amp, it's a very versatile amp.
Durability:
It's excellent in all respects, it's completely solidly built and the body is made to last (I accidently hit myself round the head taking the bass off and trust me, it's solid!). It doesn't matter too much if you knock it around a bit on stage either, it seems very resiliant

I bought yet another toy.... I will play this one to death! I don't like the setup though. The factory needs to work on it. Also, there is a lack in overall docs for the instrument (mans, docs, general info.) Didn't really like the Spector strings. I replaced them with some D. Markley Blue Steels. Perfect...
Model Year: 2000
Price: $360.00 (new)
Where Obtained: Musicians Friend
Features:
A great value for lower a lower price. Alderwood body, Rosewood fingure board,EMG etc. All the goodies. It could use a better Nut rather than the plastic one..
Playability:
Very cozy. New to Spectors but can't put this one down.
Sound Quality:
Sound and plays like any high priced Fender.
Durability:
Feels real. Built in China but with Spector quality.
